How many friends do you have?

None where I go the pub with every weekend for example.

t with something though my dad, 2 brothers and brother in law would do anything for me.
As I would for them too.
Moved away from where I grew up so didn't keep in touch with people who I used to call friends.
Like my own company and spell the majority of my time with the wife anyway. Wouldn't have it any other way.

3 or 4 really good friends and maybe another 10 that I trust, am always glad to see etc. Given what a loner I was at school, autistic spectrum, weird queer disabled kid and so on, I think that's really good going.
Parenthood and then bereaved-parenthood changed everything though. Didn't worsen any friendships that were worth keeping, just radically changed the context for my entire life.

True friends whom I could rely on for anything, 3. Suits me fine.
I have drifted away from many so called friends over the years. Seemed to be surrounded by people in my 20's who I assumed were friends. I helped people with car problems, financial issues, relationships, helped them to move house etc. Simple fact is when the situations were reversed only a tiny few of them were ever there for me. I remember one who was an old school mate who got his first house, like an idiot I drove 100 miles to visit him on his insistence. When I got my first house he never once bothered to even call let alone visit, he still owes me money as he swans about how amazing his life is etc. Total.
When I started my first business and worked really hard to make it successful you kind of assume your 'friends' will be pleased for you. How wrong I was when I learned some of them were two faced back stabbing jealous bds.
I would help pretty much help anyone but I am a little more careful these days before I get off my arse and make the effort.
