Presumably more adult orientated family time?

I didn't get the guy for a long time but I'm starting to get into his content. One of the first videos I saw was a phantom 4 review in South Africa and it had me riled at how irresponsible he was and couldn't care less about his stuff. I watched a few more and wrote him off as a grown up rich kid because of the his vegan shake, wayfarer wearing skating at 30 insufferable hipster attitude. Then I realised I had seen a lot of his viral stuff and thought it was good and started to look at his content a lot more and worried less about the perception of him. Now I see a genuinely creative person (no engineer though) who's trying to hold together the responsibility of family and his impulsive nature and has a lot of time for his fans and puts out some good content regularly. He's still irritatingly careless (mavic drone) and a bit too hipster.

Yeah defo no rich kid, ran away from home at 15 and had a kid at 17 - living in a trailer etc. I think he reflects on that a lot and is probably part of the reason why he is generally so nice to people. His videos are interesting and its rare I find myself half way through one and not wanting to keep watching. I don't generally watch many VLOG style videos but I watch all of his.

I think its just him that people are drawn to. I'm the same, I will just watch his vidoes from end to end, even if nothing terribly exciting is going on (which is most of the time). He's just easy listening.

Interesting to see this one crop up again. I've been watching a bit more of his stuff - mostly because of that 'Meaning of life in 27 seconds' one that someone posted up further up the thread, which I thought was genuinely brilliant!

It's here, to save you scrolling up and looking for it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9VBpbnXhWk

He's actually a really creative and clever guy, I love the way he puts films together, the energy in them, the story they often tell.

Against that, his need to put a video out every day means that the content can be really patchy. You can watch an entire 10 minute video in which literally nothing happens! 'We're up early cos we're going on a plane. We're in a taxi. We're at the airport. We're drinking coffee, we're on the plane, Candice is asleep, we've landed, thanks for watching'

Pick the good ones and they're genuinely excellent, even inspiring occasionally. But you have to wade through some dull stuff he punts out (just for the sake of putting something out).

Nature of the business I guess, in order to keep the fans engaged. But if he just put videos out when he actually had something to say or do, I think it would be a massive improvement.

Mail time and AMAs are generally good ones.

The travel ones are quite boring like you say. If he is staying somewhere more than a day or so you generally get a good video on location between 2 vids of taxis / airports / flights.

I only became aware of Casey because of the first class video. Have since watched all daily vlogs up to March of this year.

Compared to 99% of the crap on TV these days I find his content engaging, interesting and at times educational. Agree that some vlogs are a bit dull but in the main they are worth ten minutes of my day.

His work ethic is second to none and shows that if you put the work in, the success will come.

Considering he has two kids, a company and multiple other ventures the quality of the content he puts out everyday is pretty impressive.

I have a new found respect for Casey after yesterdays VLOG. What other YouTuber would link to the person whose style they're going to rip off? Casey had the respect to link the guy and give the guy some exposure. Many, many other YouTubers would just rip the style without credit. Many have done it with Casey's style and given no links to him.

I couldn't help but think maybe this was a giant dig at those people copying him with the time-lapse, walking away, stepping into frame style that EVERYONE is doing right now.

Haven't worked out his Beme thing. It's an app that allows you to upload unedited videos (indeed you can't edit them) then other people can see them and 'interact' by uploading their reaction.

There's an interview with him where he mentioned having 11 staff that cost $200,000/month. Then there's presumably the cost of the New York office and so forth so it must be costing $1/4 million a month.

But I'm not sure where the income comes from - advertising maybe? Can you get over $1/4 million worth of advertising income off an app like that? No idea, but presumably someone's done the maths.

This. Never got him at first, but now do and find his style very unique.

I think many like him because of his nonchalant manner to just about everything, like etching his name into a brand new MacBook Pro. I don't know of anyone else that would do that.

I came across him what must be over 10 years ago now when him and his brother made the video 'iPods dirty little secret'.

Watched the GoPro karma review on the other thread and forgot about him until I stumbled upon this thread a few weeks ago. Ever since, I've incorporated time to watch his blog into my daily routine and am actually working back through his older videos. Really, really addictive. His Mrs seems to be very hard work though.

I don't blame her. He's not exactly easy on the eyes is he.

Is that the most important thing in a marriage?

Incidentally, having started this thread querying why so many people want to watch a bloke quite often doing not very much, I've since become a bit of an addict!

I'm still not entirely sure what the draw is, and some of them you get to the end of and think 'well that was a load of complete nothing', but it's always artfully shot and produced nothing with a great soundtrack, and frequently there is something worth watching. Quite a pleasant way to burn ten minutes.

Nothing for a few days now - all very strange!
Talk of him being sick, Francine being sick, working on a movie, etc etc.
I suspect he is going to move out to LA sooner rather than later.

That'll explain the gap in videos then, I would think the things he gets to do and see are only because of the daily videos he made. I suspect that'll all end sooner than later.

He said a few weeks ago there were going to be big changes in his business and personal life, and I was just checking back to see what they were, but he never explained that further.
