He said the next video will have more details
If he ended up giving details, can you point me to that video?

I ended up watching quite a bit of his stuff and enjoying it. But his problem was exactly what I said further up this thread. You just can't put out a video a day and have them all interesting and entertaining.

More and more it was 'had a run, went to work, grabbed a smoothie, rode my boosted board, the end'.

All the timelapses and cool music in the world can't stop that going stale eventually.

If he puts out a video a fortnight that's actually about something, that will be hugely better for him and for his audience. Less lucrative though.

I have a mildly distraught daughter.

Bit of a shame that he did not invite a daily guest vlog to take some of the pace from himself.

This kind of explains his sporadic content and vague plans for the future he has alluded to in the last couple of weeks. I also got the impression that he may have been having problems with his missus, and the intrusiveness of his vlog experiment.

What I don't get though - if CNN are buying BEME and "shuttering it" - are they only after the talent behind BEME, rather than the product, customer-base or IP?

Well another example of making a messaging app then selling it to get rich. No matter how stty the app is! haha

Good luck to the guy though, and very decent payout!

Risky move from CNN IMHO.

Casey wont last long, he will feel trapped and the likes of CNN wont be able to do anything too outlandish.

My guess is 18 months.

He will then come back to indi video as that's where his heart is - IMHO. Probably big screen. Might then become a director. He is young. It will only take one big studio to throw the dice and I reckon that will work for him.

Or he might take the money and run.

I really liked all his original content as I was an early subscriber. The vlogs were the icing on the cake when they came out. Day after day of New York filled content. I would religiously watch it every night before bed.

But, it got a bit boring and his content began to turn into click-bait type content where he was grabbing for viewers attention so that he can keep the audience. I personally don't like this style of video, I'd rather wait for content to come out that is good rather than salvage content of an average day and amplify it to attract the audience back from yesterday.

It must have become harder and harder for him to create good quality content from the vlogs and he personally said this himself in his last vlog. But, I'm a little bit glad its over as it really became something tedious and he can now go back to his true film-making self, with the added support of 5 million subscribers and the extra equipment he has gained. I will get back to watching him now that his vlogs have finished, looking forward to it now.

Can't see why CNN are buying into that. They must see something I don't.

Its a nice idea as a bit of an antidote to the "me me me" of facebook, instagram and snapchat. But that is exactly why it hasn't picked up so well; people who use these things are too narcissistic to not have themselves in the frame. As I said elsewhere, they'd probably have been better off buying snapchat having people anchor their own news videos or something. Guess that would be absolutely obscene money though.

Faff, $25m for Beme is insane. I don't know how some of this stuff gets valued so highly.

Pretty sure CNN want access to Casey and not Beme.

From what I read on Arstechnica it does sound like they at least have some plans for taking the platform and developing it into something that will work for them and their new brand which sounds like "news for millennials" .

"Beme is shutting down, and its 11 employees, including Neistat, will join CNN to start a new media brand focused on millennial viewers. The Wall Street Journal reports that the deal is valued at $25 million.

Hackett, who once was the vice president of engineering at Tumblr, will help build the brand's core technology while also helping to build new mobile video features for CNN's digital properties. Neistat, who has almost 5.8 million subscribers on YouTube, will serve as the brand's executive producer and shape its "editorial vision."

It's likely that CNN will want to incorporate some of Beme's technology into this new brand or possibly some of its existing digital properties."

"This new venture will be different from a traditional news outlet. “The new company will be devoted to filling the world with excellent, timely, and topical video and empowering content creators to use technology to find their voice,” CNN told Variety. “It won’t be what most people think of as ‘news,’ but it will be relevant to the daily conversations that dominate our lives.”"

Yes they want Casey for his creative direction and they want Matt for his technical direction... But they are not just binning off the technology behind Beme.

Of course. Everything I've read talks about the new app releasing content or video etc... so it seems like they wanted to buy Casey for his film making and Beme for the delivery aspect. I'm just thinking that they're more wanting someone who can produce videos hence his new title of Executive Producer. With the new content created to be delivered via a Beme type app for millennials. Similar to the app he created for the election.

There's no way Casey could continue to vlog in the same way he does now as I'm assuming his day to day will be working for CNN alongside the other Beme employees.

TO be honest with you, somethings been off with Casey for quite a while and it seems like this is what was taking up all his time recently, hence why the uploads started to wind down. Also suspicious that his Vietnam notebook video came out on the same day that this news was released.

It'll be interesting to see where this takes him but I'm sure he won't be giving up YouTube for good and will probably make a comeback in 2018.
