Well the red light camera is also a speeding camera - who knew ? not me! so NIP 40 in a 30 ;-(

Too much for a course ? they have sent a "were you driving" and whats your license number form today

I was last on a course Jan 2013 so more than 3 years ago

Nope, not necessarily too high for a course. That's exactly what got me one, two and a half years ago.

It does depend on your area, though.

Are ALL red light cameras speed cameras as well then?
Darn sure I've exceeded speed limit while going through traffic lights.

Not all are, but some are. (Personally I treat them all as if they are).

You should be offered a speed awareness course.

Assuming the offence was committed in Merseyside, the max speed to meet the criteria for a course is 42 mph in a 30 mph limit.

You might go on a course.I did 47 in a 40 downhill and got invited to attend some learning.

You save three points maybe that is what it's all about. So many drivers on many points that it is becoming farcical.A hundred pound cost to have a free coffee.>smile

As an aside I've been on 2 of these (within 3 years as well).
Although the first in Peterborough wasn't ever going to change my thinking, I can appreciate that it was well managed and structured, and involved a 1.5 hour solo drive with an I.A.M. instructor. It likely did make many of the others on the course consider their actions (from what the participants said at the intro, a hell of a lot appeared to have bashed into something rather than a simple speed offence).
The second in Cambridge with AADrivetech was appalling, sanctimonious going-through-the-motions drivel from a couple of driving instructors (the most mouthy one was also fat which made him more of a knob). More than 3 hours bleating on about 30 limits for the most part (probably entirely irrelevant for half the attendees) and no drive-out assessment as I've been told they don't do that anymore (probably too much hassle and eats into the profit margin).
Either way, I'd go just to avoid the points, I need the cushion too much not to.

I think tbh unless I had 9 points and going on a sac helped me avoid a ban I would be inclined just to take the 3 points because paying £100 for someone to bore the pants off me due to the fact I did 36 in a 30 is downright highway robbery in my book especially as insurance companies like Admiral now ask if you've been on a sac course and if so jack the insurance up the same as if you had just took the points.

That is true, I've done the course and in future would seriously consider taking the points instead. The outlay is the same but the course also costs a day of your time.

I have done a course in Kent was OK!

Think the blew my mind was when the instructor told us that we are one of the best countries for obeying speed limits with a relatively low number of convictions. There were 40 people on my course and another 40 in the afternoon, so 80 people who had been caught speeding and not been convicted. I am guessing that our gentle approach to punishing speeders makes us look better than we actually are!

But, points add up and so does the insurance costs
