So after waiting for Audi to discount the SQ7 and failing we decided to have a look at the Model X - and no turning back as it feels light-years ahead in technology terms and impressive on the luxury / quality of build.

So with the imminent price rise we've put an order in for a Model X 90D and pretty much ticking all the boxes, delivery due end of Feb.

The only dilemma is whether to go for the 6 seats or 7 seat option.

I favour the 6 seats so it can take ski's / other long objects internally as the middle/middle seat doesn't fold flat.

The wife still thinks to go for the 7 seat options for when were are running kids friends around - to my recollection once a year...

Anyone else ordered one and what rationale was applied?

Cheers,

Phil

Congrats on your ordersmile.

We went for 6 seater, without the middle 2nd row seats the 3rd row is actually usable for adults, with plenty of leg room and space. Add in a central seat and it becomes too cramped and dark.

We have seen both the 6 and 7 seater in the flesh, and unless you really really need the extra seat, 6 seater is perfect.

Ours is also due end of Feb, but I'm not holding my breath. Not a single RHD cars have even been made yet, if we get ours before April 2017 when the new luxury car VED rate kicks in I'll be happy.

So, for balance, we are going for the 7 seat.

The rear 2 seats will be down most of the time and popped up when needed for extra people, so most of the time it will be functioning as a normal 5-seater which when mostly it is the 4 of us plus one of the kids' friends is how we cope today, with the option for more if needed.

I have tried both a 6 and a 7, sat in the back. Though I get why 6 feels easier for people getting in and out of the back (though that is kind of the point of the falcon-wing doors!!) and that the middle seat does obscure the rear view somewhat, I negated the 6 for a couple of reasons.

When the rear seats are down and loading the boot, there is nothing to stop stuff sliding forward into the gap, whereas in the 7-seat there is a wall of seat backs. As we do a lot of driving to and from our holiday home with the boot fully loaded this felt important.
When sitting in the back, it just feels like there should be something in the middle, and the kids didn't like it either as there was nowhere for them to put down their 'stuff' on long journeys as they do with the middle seat now. Especially when cornering, there is nowhere for passengers to put their hands down to brace themselves - I know this feels weird but I had this comment independently from 2 separate people who rode in the back. Strange that they don't have arm rests.
Often we are taking kids and their friends somewhere and currently have to take 2 cars now and again when there are more than 5 of us, so 7 seats really helps - and that one time I wanted to take 7 people and I only had 6 seats would niggle ;-)

Essentially the point is that there is a choice and it is great that people can choose.

As Gangzoom says, I will be surprised if I see mine (P100D, ordered on the first day you could order the X as a P90D earlier this year then upgraded at the end of Aug) before the end of Feb. I don't even have a VIN yet, which you usually get 4-6 weeks before your car enters production, and then it can be 6-8 weeks after that before you see it in the UK (shipped to Holland, then UK), so I would need my VIN to arrive now for Feb realistically - my DS told me yesterday that they should start building RHD in November... Fingers crossed!!!

I'm in two minds about the delivery time frame. On one hand I want it ASAP, on the other hand some US owners are still getting car delivered with poor panel gap finishes, Falcon wing doors not working etc. So in a way I don't mind the delivery date been pushed back if it means we'll get properly built cars.

Thanks for the input and opinions, the showroom over at White City said the orders had been roughly half of each so far.

Have switched to the 6 seat config, goes final tomorrow so still got time to change my mind...went for the uprated hifi with the money saved on the seats.

Cheers,

Phil

I followed one of these into my local sainsburys today (left-hand drive on dutch plates). Was hoping to have a sneaky look around it when they had parked up - slight problem though, they couldn't park! These things are HUGE! The guy tried to get into about 3 spaces before giving up, I assume to find a quieter corner of the car park. Of course, the driver may have just have been useless at parking but they really are a big old thing. Its quite deceptive because the styling is such that they look fairly normal, its only when you are close up that you realise they are as tall as a large 4x4 and a lot wider.

No idea how many seats it had though so I have nothing constructive to add to this thread, sorry getmecoatlaugh

The X is 2.2m wide with mirrors out, the same as the new Discovery. The new XF is 2.1m wide with mirrors out. So it's not a small car but I had no problems with test driving a LHD car around some back streets in central Birmingham.

More bizzarly Tesla have just removed the cheapest 60D version of the X, and along with some pricing changes the cheapest X has just gone from £65k to close to £75k.

Tesla product announcement on 17th, some speculation it could be AP 2.0 hardware, but Musk says 'unexpected by most'. Our cars could already be out of date next week this time...but you got to love the way Tesla makes progress.
