This shower have yet again failed to deliver my parcel. I know ..... but really I didn't think lightning would strike twice in 2 months. I was wrong....and I am paying for it.

£150 Dewalt planer sent and insured for £100...signed for. What could go wrong?

Just left at some random address and not signed for.

My argument is that this is breach of contract....anybody successfully claimed on this shower, aside from them just paying the compensation plus postage cost?

They might as well just collect the parcel, sell it on ebay and just compensate people on the proceeds....or perhaps that is their business model.

Their customer service is so bad.....I really can't beleive it. It's taken three weeks so far.....and their webchat just has to be experienced...there is a 3 minute gap between your question or statement and their response.

You do know how Hermes work right?

Basically they have a delivery network with distribution centres, HGVs, vans etc.

For most end consumers someone who is a "self employed" courier uses their own vehicles to deliver the parcels. The service you receive depends on whether that person is full time, part time or very part time. A lot of mums do deliveries in between school hours and when their partners come home in the evening. Not only do they have to deliver for sweet FA (was 50p per drop), they have to undertake free collections - most of the stuff being clothes and crap from catalogue companies.

If the regular courier goes on holiday then there is normally no-one to deliver your goods. If they can they will find cover by blackmailing a neighbouring courier. Sometimes parcels can go underdelivered for weeks if they get lost in the couriers garage when they are AWOL.

It's a st company because of how they treat their staff. That translates into the service you get.

Have used them quite extensively in the past and went for a long time without a hitch. Then I had a couple of items in the same week that were completely and utterly destroyed by the time they arrived at the delivery address. I make very robust packaging and really couldn't have done any more.

To be fair they did refund the value of the goods and postage without too much fuss. Still a pain as I had to rely on the unhappy recipients of damaged goods to provide photos etc.

After that I said never again and have only ever used Royal Mail / Parcelforce. So far no issues !

Amazon now use them a lot, i had a parcel to return 3 weeks ago and was given a Hermes return label with collection arranged for next business day, they didn't show up, contacted Amazon who rearranged for the following day, the didn't show up. Went back to work and contacted Amazon again who dutifully rearranged it again, they never showed up. By this time i lost interest and the parcel is still sat here, Told Amazon i was going to return it my own way and bill them for the full amount, they agreed surprisingly.

To be fair my local courier who contracts to them is really good. I've known him for a couple of years and his father before him

Never had a single problem with collection or delivery to me

Only used them six or seven times.

Never had a problem personally.

I did wonder how it operated - would explain why I've had two parcels left in the recyling bin, on collection day. fking idiots. The sooner that job is done by machines, the better.

Often when you order there's a box to put in where to leave parcels if your out.

It's "you're". Not your or yore or yaw. It means "you are".
ie "When you are not in".

Used them several times when sending parcels, always gone quiet smoothly.
However, I used to pay the extra ~50p for "proof of signature".
You would too - right? That way you know your intended recipient got it?

So sure, enough, parcel gets delivered - theres an online link to the signature. Its my signature. The one I signed when I dropped the parcel off.
Brilliant.
Happened the next time too, so I assume its not coincidence.

Jokes on them - Ive stopped paying the extra 50p now and can look at my own signature for free anytime I want.

To be fair, we've had Royal Mail do this with parcels too.

I'm with you, what idiot would order something when they know they won't be around to receive it or make suitable alternative arrangements?

Probably a significant portion of the population. I order things all the time on the assumption that they will leave a card telling me where they have left the parcel, 99% of them manage this, apart from Hermes who think its acceptable to put something in a bin. This is something only a total retard would do, which I suppose given the job requires someone able to drive and read and little more, I should not have been surprised.

How much care do you expect?
I'm an optician, the NHS pays less than the cost of doing an eye examination, how much do you want me to care.

With the greatest of respects the Hermes guy does get the opportunity to sell you a pair of £600 spectacles though.
