Did you pay for the 'signature on receipt' option? I think that might be added automatically when you take the enhanced insurance option above the std £25.

If they failed to get a signature & that was paid for as part of the contract, surely that puts you in a stronger position to make a claim?
I did pay extra for signature and insurance and I am claiming breach of contract but they are just ignoring me now. I have asked for my complaint to be passed to their legal department.

Whatever I ask they ignore.

They say they have agreed £100 and initiated its payment to me. Still haven't got it but its only 3 days.

I've been using Hermes a fair bit over the last few years, both sending and receiving, and to date not a single parcel has failed to arrive safely ( only one niggle was where tracking said parcel left in porch, customer said it wasn't there - turned out one of his kids had put their coat on top of it biggrin ) Local Hermes delivery guy also delivers for other companies so I see him quite regularly - seems a nice friendly chap.

Also regularly receive stuff via iPost with no problems - again the delivery guy always seems friendly.

The only one I've had trouble with is when sending stuff Royal Mail airmail to the US, with delivery at the far end by USPS - they seem to be very good at damaging and losing stuff frown

I sent a nice old bicycle frame with them, arrived on time okay...

OT - I'm really struggling to work out how that frame can possibly accommodate a rear wheel...

Before we moved our MyHermes delivery driver was an attractive girl, probably in her early twenties. Made a pleasant change from the usual delivery drivers! She's captured on Streetview pushing a parcel through our door.

if that was for me. yes they got a signature but I knew beforehand the chap was not around on the wed they delivered it. he told me this before I posted it but not knowing it it would take up to 48 hours to send. I got cover for £250 but when I was told it was left with another person, another street etc... and no letter to say I missed u it seems the delivery driver could have just put the signature in himself. I've been told and its been recorded that the driver sent it to about 4 different addresses. no idea why. I left no not about leaving it in the porch or another place.
No, the OP but I can see how it would get tricky if they are just telling porkies.

Classic hermes.

I was in my living room the other day, I heard the letterbox go, and thought it would just be a local takeaway, but I wandered out about 2 mins later and it was a Hermes calling card. I'd been literally ten feet away, watching TV. Which you could see walking up my garden path to the door. Utter s.

It not just hermes who are crap though , its pretty much across the board. Several times I've had Royal Mail drop a 'you werent in' card through my door when I have been in the house.

One time I was actually standing inside the door (glass paned) and watched him write it out and drop it through. I opened the door and asked him why he didnt ring the bell ? ' I dont have the package on the Van, it was a bit big so I left it at the depot you can collect it there'

It was a pair of shoes !

Really ?

The reason i'm dubious is because all parcels with the 2d barcode are scanned every step , so it could easily be proven that it wasn't taken out on the date you got your card.

You'd complain and i'm not sure exactly how postie would talk his way out of that .

Yes really - My friend works at the same post office and confirmed that it does happen sometimes if they are short staffed or have a transport problem. And have you ever tried complaining to the Post Office rolleyes As it happens the depot is only about a mile from the house so not a big problem just annoying.

I'm a postie and only this week somebody emailed/phoned customer services complained there post was wet ( it had been pissing down all day), i had a manager phone me re the wet post on a wet day incident.

So it's quite simple to complain and they do follow it up no matter how idiotic the complaint is.

I've never experienced leaving parcels at the depot and just bunging forms thru customers doors and that's 20 years at a large town depot and the last 6 years at a tiny rural depot covering just 5 deliveries.

Nope.

The company decided it was best to take the weight of posties shoulders so removed the messenger type bags.

We now have bags that clip on the trolleys if 2 posties share a van or in my case nothing.

The best you can do is split the bundles down so your carrying less mail for less time but if it's raining all day your coats drenched so it just drips off the arms onto whatever you happen to be carrying.

Its been a while since I complained, so maybe I will try if it happens again. Its also a pain when our mail gets delivered to someone else although thats improved lately , now its just the odd letter that goes to a random house elsewhere in our town that has the same house number as us.

Ive always accepted that we just lose a fair amount of post - I would estimate probably 1/3 of our post never used to get to us although the junk mail always seems to arrive . Things have improved over the last year and most of our post seems to get to us now. For me its always been an assumption that post is unreliable and should be avoided wherever possible.

If I have to send a letter I only use special delivery as they always seem to arrive.

I dont rely on the post , wherever possible I have things emailed to me. And I keep calendar notes for letters I am expecting, if they dont arrive when I think they should I chase up for an email version

So if company 1 delivers your parcel to the bin and locks it how does company 2 get into the bin?
Fair point, and even when putting it in place something I did think of.

On those rare occasions we get more than 1 parcel in a day the second courier would need to follow the normal process when no-one's in.

No solution I could think of is perfect, but this does have the ability to work well 99% of the time.

The solution is to talk to your postie and ask him to leave it in a safe place like shed, garage etc.

Obviously it's easier if you have the same postie all the time .
