So the ski season soon to be upon us.. Will be my first time in St Anton. I have looked in all the usual places online (Iglu, airbnb etc) for either chalet or hotels, not really much catching the eye. Will be 5 guys going in total, looking for a bit of comfortable luxury - not too OTT, ideally not too far to walk to lifts and restaurants etc...

Any decent recommendations from the good people of PH?

Thanks G

Can't remember the hotel we stayed In but other thoughts...

- Innsbruck approach was amazing
- skiing is good but strangely it felt to me that St Anton was a place to ski back to rather than stay skiing there the day. Seemed odd given its reputation
- the moosevirt and the krazy kangaroo are everything you might expect but...
- they don't call it St MANton for nothing. Any single men in your group may be disappointed by that

I've stayed at the Kertess many times , at the top of the hill but only 5 mins to the lift. Swimming pool nice bar etc. And they do short breaks we always used to go as a lads group, always good fun.

Thanks for the responses. Never realised how crazy expensive St Anton actually is. So we are not even in November, looks like the place is 90% booked out from Jan...

As we are five and dependent on twin rooms, which never seem available, managed to secure a penthouse on a new complex as a placeholder, however not exactly cheap...

Hoping it will be worth it...

Any others recommendations? Airbnb is so full of scams..

Ski Val are an independent operator I've been with many times in Val D'Isere, but they also operate in St Anton.

Catered Chalet with 3 x twins with early Jan availability: http://www.skival.co.uk/ski-chalet/st-anton/karina...

They tend to employ good, well-educated and hard-working chalet hosts who are decent cooks, I'd definitely recommend them.

Reasonable money too, not stupid expensive. Great resort - I've been three times in January, albeit with other operators, always had a blast.

Best I leave out the bit about meeting a girl in our chalet/leaving my then partner for her/ski girl turning out to be a complete mentalist. That bit wasn't in the brochure, but you live and learn! smile

Must be something about the air in St Anton! biggrin

Early January can be bloody cold in St Anton, as a warning, but usually the snow is good (especially for Austria, hence the prices and high level of early booking).

I once went the weekend after Easter (last weekend they were open). The first day it poured with rain and I nearly went home (to Munich at the time), but I decided to stay as I'd bought a two day lift pass - The next morning was clear blue skies and loads of fresh powder and probably about 100 people in the whole resort!

A very memorable day, even if it was 20+ years ago! biggrin
