I don't get why people don't use chav instead of council, cos that's what they mean anyway. It's an obvious dig at people who might be on low income. It's like wannabe-Waitrose shoppers turning their nose up at/being offensive to asda shoppers. Too many daily mail readers on here.
Plain old fashioned, obnoxious, snobbery.

...but he's fought for England...
No, he hasn't. He's kicked a ball around.
Fair point. My point I think you get.
I think also there were shed loads of so called 'chavs' like Rooney who got slaughtered in the First World War.
No. Not one.

They're generally a product of the combination of the welfare state and a material world.

The one that bites my tits is 'poverty spec' when describing a car that has a low level of trim.

Does the constant use of this word, with just lately appears to cover anyone on low income, get on your t1ts?
Was thinking this with alot of threads and there Op's popping up recently.

Including but not limited too, this thread in its self is council.

Writing a thread about using the word council being council in its self is council, etc etc.

Chavs used to be the underclass - Council and far below. Many Council folk are decent hard working people who keep themselves to themselves.

Chavs now transcend all social classes. If you're cut up by someone in an Audi, it's as likely that he/she are professionals or upper classes. The common factor is their ish behaviour to others.

I was expecting to get a shed load of abuse with this thread so would like to say thank you for the considered posts.
For me the comment about Rooney is a perfect example.
Basic education, scouse accent, rough around the edges.
He's never going to be as eloquent as Bobby Moore but he's fought for England with as much pride and is there with Bobby charlton with the goals.
If he's chav then I prefer him than the obnoxious dicks that ignores the rest.

I was in a design office many years ago with a good bunch of guys.
We were having a general cross office humorous chat when one of the lads said that his wife was from Liverpool.
I'll quote the next voice to be heard, " Oh god, you've gone right down in my estimations".
What the f##k is that all about.
It took 3 lads to hold back the husband while two others marched the knob out.
You didn't watch the last World Cup did you ? fking disgrace along with the rest of the kissball squad

No, that's people who rely on financial assistance from the council. Perfectly respectable and decent.

The word 'council' in this use is just to describe chavs. People with poor taste and behaviour but not necessarily financially poor.

yes Mrs JS was born and bought up in a council house. Her dad was a long distance Lorryist driving HGVs all over Europe and her mum worked full time as a cleaner and kitchen assistant in a boarding school. None of her grandparents even made it to council house status - they all lived in tied agricultural houses and slaved away from dawn to dusk six days a week as farm hands and domestic servants.

Despite adding insult to injury by living in Essex all her life she's probably one of the least "Council" people you'll ever meet.

So no, Council really doesn't fit. Chav - Council House And Violent - does 'tho smile
