So what does the PH massive think this is (or was)? I'm thinking possibly a Bristol or Alvis but not really sure.

Looks four-door to me, isn't that a centre door pillar sticking out? Don't have much knowledge of that era unfortunately, and Google image search is useless unless you know what you're looking for.

Looks like a MG Magnette ZA judging by the wheels and the front wheel arch moulding....

Could well be. The wheel arch trim and punched steel rims are very similar, but the curve of the rear wing looks different (though it could be seriously distorted by the impact).

I am surprised no one has asked what happened to it! Looks as if dropped from a height? And it is on an airfield....

Looks like a Bristol to me, the line on the front wing doesn't extend to the rear, a bit like a Bentley s3 continental or an Aston DB2 but it's neither of these.

Definitely not a Bristol - you won't fit a spare wheel into that space, and it just looks like a grotty swage (perhaps it was painted white without stripping trim, which fell off in the "landing"?) not a hinge.

B'sides, the only four-door Bristol was the 405.

I think Magnette might well be the right answer.

See where the rear door shut goes all the way to the arch, no dogleg visible? That's the same as on the dropped car. The trim strip on the arch suggests MG rather than Wolseley.

And the rear bumper has a lengthy wrap around like the crashed one. 'Mystery' solved I think. Thanks chaps

It seems to have a fin-wing at the back conataining the rear lights, and just below the front styling line is a trafficator - one of those semaphore jobs like the Minor had in the B-pillar.

That's no Magnette IMHO.

PS "my eyes are weak..." that's not an indicator, just a bent piece of chrome strip. Doh!

It is obviously the 'Mystery Car' from the other thread - which is why we can now find no trace of it . . . . .

2 mysteries solved in 1

Is there a prize ?

My first thought too; but the Jensen is a two-door and its bodywork is glass-fibre.

Magnette ZA I think, though the very rear of the rear wing looks wrong.

The 4/44 was a Magnette - but with different front (which we can't see), trim (which doesn't tie up with that front wing) and the same rear wing.

The mystery car could easily be a two door, the rear panel is ripped along the line of what looks like a door edge but could just have been chance that it `tore that way. The torn bit looks like it could be fibreglass
