I don't think the men are naive. If anything the mail-order bride route is about as likely to work as any other marriage and considerably more honest about what she is getting out of it!Half my family are Thai or derivatives there of, I've also spent a fair bit of time over there and can honestly say I've seen it all across the spectrum.
I know people that are the same age in relationships I also know of people with quite an age gap between them, there's those that are genuinely in love and those that are in it for the money or sex.
However if you decide to marry a bar girl from Pattaya then all I can say is best of luck cause one of you is gonna end up f

Sadly Matt Lucas and his 'ting tong' sketches have reinforced these stereotypes. In years to come we will look back on his show in the same way we regard Alf garnet and other such 'classics' from the 70s and wonder how we allowed such tripe to be transmitted. I expect there are quite a few of these brides who are in abusive relationships with western men. Men who full well know that a western woman would not tolerate such abuse and therefore seek out softer targets.

OP you need to get out more, plenty of Western women have older men as lovers. It's a a way older cliche than the bar girl/asia one funnily. Know a 30something single female who always seems to live alone? Bets on she's got an arrangement somewhere.

I only spent 3 weeks in Thailand during a SE Asia trip but while over there got friendly with a local girl who stayed with me a few days(no she was not a prostitute) after having my eyes opened in Patong with the amount of Western men with local women i couldn't help but ask what the attraction was with Western men.Some seemed to do it either to earn a fortune by marrying some older Western man with money and divorcing him shortly afterwards or escaping from a world of poverty in a country where prostitution is almost everywhere. At least 50% seemed to be attracted to Caucasian men and some will not go near a Thai man due to the old fashioned way of thinking and poor equality etc
I remember being told that the perfect situation for some local women would be a Caucasian man of average height & build living in Thailand on a decent wage, the potential to be scammed is most risky when marriage in Europe/USA etc is considered

In the business i work it's not uncommon. Used to be able to tell where the work was based on the wives. When Indonesia was booming they were Indonesian , when Kazakhstan was busy the wives became Kazakh!
I have friends married to Far Eastern girls, they've been married for years & it works out well. Others in more recent times fell for Kazakh's, got rid of their British wives & moved in the Kazakhs. That often didn't end well.
I don't see any patterns, the normal Uk marriage failure rate is high enough That this is hardly a model for success.

It isn't bloody racist at all. It's a bloody fact, this sort of thing is very common.

No offence intended but you sound like Gordon Geko. Most people are pathetic in someone else's eyes. My friend has a business partner with a personal wealth of only £20m. His neighbours think that is pathetic but that is nearly 20 times my personal wealth which another friend thinks makes me a millionaire.

I remember reading an old thread on here years ago from some old guy working offshore in the oil fields in Asia who'd married a young Filipino girl and bought a big house for her in the Philippines somewhere and then had her mother move in with them 
. Dunno if he still posts on here (can't remember the username) but he isn't going to be short of a few quid in that line of work and that kind of money would go a very long way in the Philippines. His young wife and family just biding their time?
