Haha so many annoying "trends" in this topic.

How about dabbing?

Transgender.

fk me - probably less than a fraction of a percentage of the population are transgender so why is it talked about so much?

I don't ever remember it getting anywhere near as much attention as it currently does, so therefore I nominate it as "a thing".
I know! Isn't it awful that people who had to pretend to be something that they weren't are starting to be able to be themselves and that society is starting to accept them? They should stay in the closet and the gays should get back in there with them. rolleyes

Calm down princess. Did I mention not accepting them?

Personally, if someone thinks they are "trapped in the wrong body" or whatever then I couldn't care less. I think there are far more important things that as a society we could be looking to fix. Like I said, it's a fraction of a percentage of the population yet gets a disproportionate amount of "airtime".

Are you one of these people that get outraged on behalf of other people? Another "thing".

Also, what has being gay have to do with it?

No, I get annoyed on behalf of myself. But I'm not going to derail the thread with that.

But, yes, maybe society moving in the right direction on accepting transgenderism as a "thing" is a thing, but it is a good thing in my opinion.

Anyway, on with the thread.

Anyone saying "on trend" needs a slap, trending itself just means in most circumstances that someone is trying to make you feel you are missing out on something.

Um excuse me Mr, I think you'll find that 'gay' is offensive and LGBT is actually now a thing.

Back to food "things"

Have we had jus yet?

Sometimes spelt juis.

Every poncy restaurant now seems to make a great thing of serving their food with jus.

Brexit.

Not being able to book a restaurant table and having to queue outside for it instead.

Posting dashcam videos on YouTube.

Being unable to ride your bicycle unless in a group all dressed like Bradly Wiggins and tracking eleventy million stats about your performance with a gadget, and then sharing this fascinating insight to your fitness level on social media.

Stockpiling "carrier bags for life" because you forget to take them shopping so buy more when you're there.

Saying you shop in Aldi/Lidl. Even if you don't.

I will, just not sure when, every time i see it advertised or in a salad it just looks unappealing.

I will be forgoing the pulled pork salad tonight for a mexican chicken salad instead, looks more like food to me lick
Make your own. Go to the butcher and get a decent bone-in shoulder joint and do it at home, BBQ is best, oven will work just fine though.

Some brioche buns, some vinegar sauce, maybe some BBQ sauce (make that too, it's easy) and some decent coleslaw.
yes absolutely. it has to be done properly, cooked low and slow (depending on the size of the shoulder/butt it can be as long as 18hrs). Imho doing it outside in a half decent smoker (Webber for example) is the only way to do it, but its not practical for everybody. There are very few BBQ restraunts in the UK that do it properly; most cheat and you can tell if you have tasted it done properly.

Sadly Hipsters made it 'a thing' in the UK and everybody thinks they can do it even though 99% of it is boiled, showed a smoker for an hour and served up drowned in BBQ sauce to try and disguise it. There is no such thing as pulled beef or pulled chicken (you can shred either though) its marketing bullst made up by firms to jump on the hipsterised pulled pork bandwagon that appeared out of nowhere a few years ago.

the 'a thing ' bit for me at the moment is the incessant need to have interconnected gadgets in the home and in the car. iIt seems to be 'a thing' now that the media connectivity in cars is the most important aspect of advertising a new car.

Not sure if this has been said already, but serving food in restaurants on anything other than a plate.
Planks of wood, skillet, oven tray (if you class harvester as a restaurant), someone on here posted up a shepherd's pie they'd been served up in a glass!

Saw pull the trigger mentioned earlier on here. Another one (usually on the apple laptop/desktop threads) talking about screen size by saying things like "real estate"

I seem to recall there was a whole thread on daft things restaurants served food on/in. Some of the items were mind-bogglingly pretentious/too try hard.

Been going on for a few years now, but the need to take a bottle of water when doing, well, anything; walking round the shops, catching a train, going out for a coffee...

Salted Caramel.

Why am I made to feel such a low life when I say I like Caramel without Salt. Nice and sweet like it used to be. Honestly you'd think I'd clubbed a seal with the looks I get when I don't for example order the Sticky toffee pudding with Salted Caramel sauce, I'm sick of being told "Oh but the Salt in the Caramel works soooo well".

Arghhhhhhh.

There's a Facebook/Twitter page called "We Want Plates" dedicated to this bks.

Going back to the gender arguement, why is it now a thing to have a st load of different gender and sexuality types? On the flipside, why is it also a thing to not identify by gender? I blame Tumblr

A lot of this stuff isn't actually "new", it's just recently mainstream. One restaurant serving food on things other than plates is a quirky affectation. Everywhere doing it is just naff.
