Nope. They tried to register the brand Platinum but as it wasn't made of Platinum they couldn't.
They added the "G" because.............................................
The company was called Mentmore Manufacturing if I remember. Started around 1919 ish
Very interesting, I had one of the long blue pens with a short black cap at junior school and always wondered about the name and especially the pronunciation. They added the "G" because.............................................

The X750 is a #8 nib, and the X450 has a #5 nib. But it could be the ink - the X750 has Waterman ink in it whilst the X450 has Parker Quink Permanent in it. Actually, now I come to think of it, so does the Hero 448 so it could be that Quink is more prone to drying out?
Edit: Oh, how embarrassing! The X450 was out of ink.
Yeah, that's pretty dry Edit: Oh, how embarrassing! The X450 was out of ink.

That's very generous. Would you be willing to send one though the post if I paid you via PayPal?+1 I hope I can repay a favour of some sorts soon also.
In the mean time here are some comparison pics of the Steel/Gold TecFlex Porsche Fountain pen I received today against my Parker Vector (actual school pen!), Parker 15, and Porsche TecFlex Ballpoint which I will be selling now that I have my fountain pen.
The TecFlex pens are a dream to write with, the weight is fantastic and if ever a pen had a sense of occasion this would definitely be my pick. I can see what someone on the forum here meant when they said the lid on the back of the fountain pen is too heavy, without it is a perfect weight and weave on the pen is just stunning. Highly recommended.

Following on from Exige's Schaeffer post, I thought I'd quite fancy a new Schaeffer.
My first Google found this, I think I'll give this particular one a miss though.

They sell a lot in the Middle East mainly to developers who use the pen to sign a large contract an then give the client the pen as a souvenir.
The more expensive the better.
They also sell a lot in Japan where companies buy them for retiring senior executives. Again, the more expensive the better.
Vulgar?
Check out the slightly more expensive Jinhaos. By expensive we're talking ¬ 15-20 pounds. All winding snakes and dragons. And they weigh 90 gms!!!

Right, in the spirit of generosity that this thread has generated, I'd like to offer this Jinhao Y1 to someone.
I ordered two with a medium nib, but this one turned up with a fine nib. I haven't run any ink through it, as I have enough fine nibbed pens, so I don't know how it writes. It also has a converter inside.
First come first served, obviously.

Just been to the post office and sent out pens to those that sent me their address.
System Paranoia was the first to send me his address so have included another pen I found. It's used but with a good flush out should be OK. Also put some ink cartridges from the 1990's in there. Hope they are still OK.

I look forward to breathing new life into them!
My Jinhao X250 arrived today. It is astonishing value for money at £1.98 delivered! No writing experience yet as the ink I've ordered for it has yet to arrive. The nib (fine), viewed through a lupe, looks fairly crude even compared with the X450 nib, but the proof is in the writing...

The 250 is a nice pen, well behaved and writes just as it should. As you perhaps know, the ends of the nib should sit nicely like oo all the Jinhaos I have seen are good in this respect. As you say the value is unbeatable.

I'd be miffed if it had cost £30 but at less than £2 how can I do more than simply comment?
