I assume the 'tell' above was left over from a previous draft?

If that's the case, then you are misrepresenting the position of those who wonder why, when he believes this country to be disgusting, he doesn't leave.

But in any case, 'disgusting' is hardly constructive criticism, it's just ignorant name calling.
Well SP is banned from NP&E as far as i recollect so he has to try winding people up on other parts of the forums.
Only for 2 more days.

If a legitimate concern/criticism "winds you up", then i imagine you spend much of your time upset

Actually, telling him he has to leave because he disagrees with you is ignorant in the extreme.
Nobody told him he had to leave, they, or rather I, asked him why he doesn't. It's pointless misrepresenting what people have said because they will simply put you right, as I have just now,and you will have to start again.

People are starting to take criticism of Britain very personally!
Yep, instead of saying "we should improve and become a better place to live" they say "If you dont like anything, leave".

If we let these people win, Britain will become a much crappier place to live. Do these people really represent British values? Just what are British values?

According to Ofsted, British values are:

democracy; the rule of law; individual liberty; mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
Certainly a good set of values to have, but I don't see anything in there saying "get out if you don't agree with us" which would seem inherently contrary to these values to begin with. It seems those telling others they should leave because they disagree are the ones acting contrary to British values.

Personally I'd rather my country stand up to criticism rather than tell exile those who would dare criticise us. A society (and culture) that weathers criticism is a strong society.
if i don't like a place i don't stay there. Perhaps some people dont agree with your values or what makes a place 'disgusting'

It certainly is my home, and it isn't now, and never has been disgusting. I presume you were very cross when you wrote that, or don't understand what the word means. I've noticed that misusing words has become a very popular thing, for instance, the word 'incredible' is thrown into conversations with little grasp of what it means.

I'm British (and very proud of our culture) - and manage to not take it personally......

(It's pretty easy really....when you have a bit of confidence in who you are and your roots.....)

I could have chosen a different adjective, but my vocabulary isn't as extensive as i would like.

but the point remains.. if you have something in your home that annoys you:

A Loose skirting board, creaking step, the wife

you do what you can to address that issue, using anything from gaffatape and talking/swearing to complete reassessment and replacement of the offending part.. you don't just walk out the door and never return!

I think System Paranoia's analogy is spot on.....but his wording is possibly a little hyperbolic.

I think saying the country is blanket disgusting is OTT. It isn't - the fundamentals of healthcare, justice and welfare are underfunded (in my, but I know not PHs opinion) but they broadly function 90% of the time.

But anyone who thinks Britian is some sort of perfect utopian paradise is kidding themselves too....there are problems. The proverbial leaky tap/squeaky floor board, that you try and fix rather than turning your back on a house you love.

Utopia is the Greek for 'no place' - near enough - and Thomas More called it that for a reason.

I just get wary of dogmatic tub thumping and the comply with our opinion or get out attitude that can pop up.

There aren't actually that many in remote areas. Over 90% of the population lives in cities.

For those that aren't near a school, Australia has the school of the air.

If I recall, that was the precise point being made.
