Was it this one:

I had the 32" version, it was a stunning picture back in the day
Yeh it was, lovely set.

I think Sony did actually produce a HD 1080P 40" CRT in the late 90s, but it cost something like £13k and weighed around 300kg!

The 36" Tosh was 120kg on the box iirc.
I had the 36" one and I remember it cost about £1200. Advertised it for free about 6 years ago, as long as someone came and took it away. No flipping way was I going to be lifting it anywhere.

I did feel bad though, as an old guy who was semi- disabled turned up with his mate to take it away. They really did struggle to get it through the house and into his motability Nissan Note. With hindsight, I should have helped. Ah well smile
We had this same set also. Moved house 3 times with this b@stard thing! And our first "house" was a flat... not on the ground floor... with no lift!
A few years back I bought one cheap on ebay as an ex rental, already measured back of my mk2 Punto and was 99% sure it would fit. The lads in the warehouse that brought it out to the car almost dropped it in amazement when they saw what car I wanted it to go in. Sure enough it did fit with less than a cm each side. Getting it out was a bit more tricky!

A mixed grill in a cafe near to Smithfield Market, pre camera phone era sadly. Clearly it was for those who had been doing hard physical graft for many hours, rather than all night revellers. Two massive plates of meat and offal and one of chips.

I don't think I have seen one of these 36"ers in someone's home. Funny how that as a screen size is now considered on the small side. I guess that because they were so deep they took up half the room and you ended up closer to them.

They are basically like asbestos. If it if not causing any issues, just leave it where it is as it is a nightmare to move and nobody at the tip is going to help you unload it.

Back in the 80's I bought a 28 inch TV with a matching stand and pro-logic speakers. It was my pride and joy smile In currys the other day I was surprised to see that TV's under 32 inch were in a section marked "Small TV's"

These days we have a 60 inch TV, and I think that's looking a little small now we've had it a while!

I bought a 36" Sony CRT in 1999 - it cost me £2499! But 'cost per lb' was pretty good value - I think it weighed approaching 20 stone.

I remember the day I bought it, phoning my mate to tell him what I'd just picked up, and he asked me what it was like, and saying to him that I had no idea because I couldn't get it out of the van on my own!

Cracking telly - managed to get £150 for it in 2007; fella got a bargain!
yes Picture quality compares well with anything pre-HD.

We've still got a 32" or 36" Sony upstairs with the OE stand...really need to shift it, as it's not even been plugged in for 3 years and we're redecorating that room in the Spring.

So if anyone wants to add their own "I was silly enough to try and move a huge CRT..." story to this thread, PM me... biggrin

Sounds like the perfect way to kick off your very own YouTube channel - Things Thrown From Upstairs Windows.

LoL. Lovely idea, except I'd need to remove the window-frame first...TV's significantly bigger than the window!

I was on holiday in NYC with a mate, both normal weight blokes in our mid 20's.

We go to the Carnegie Deli. Having had a large breakfast we decide to get something small and have a look at the sandwiches. An aggressive waiter turns up and starts demanding our order on penalty of death. Not having much time, I just see the words "Special" and order..."The Woody Allen Special"

At this point two huge fat guys sat next to laugh and say "Wow! You're bigger guys then we are". I admit, this got me concerned. But then again, I could barely understand a word these lumberjacks were saying to each other and thought it best to feign deafness rather than speak to them.

What happened next really shocked us. For a start Woody Allen is only 5ft 4" The sandwiches then came out. It was so big i think it would've come up to Woody Allen's knee, and if he consumed it it would undoubtedly kill him.

Instead of toothpicks to hold the sandwich together they used SKEWERS. Like BBQ SKEWERS.

The photo is not mine, but it has a can in it for perspective. The sandwich is taller than a can of coke. It is all meat. Also, the photo only shows ONE HALF of it...there's another.

Flipping heck.

Of course we'd penciled in somewhere to go for dinner...and ordered a large steak.

Case of it being alot smaller

Misses decided to buy a love seat to go in the bay window of our house, shame she didn't bother to consult me on the measurements,
I waited in all day incase the delivery driver needed a hand, turns out I'd wasted a days holiday for this ! (2l pop bottle for comaprison)

Trying to work out what that was originally designed for, was it meant to be a decorative piece in a child's room?

If so, the "love seat" moniker seems to be a bit strange or maybe that's just me.

Some great stories. My gf, a clothing sale fanatic, ordered me a suit from Next. But got the sizes the wrong way round. Suffice it to say, the 42" trousers were lightly too large, and the 34" chest jacket a bit of a squeeze!

Indeed, I'm wondering if it's really just a pencil sharpener?
Looks identical to the one my MiL brought back from Thailand for my wife. If so, it's 'anatomically correct' when viewing from behind... Wife was shocked - but not enought not to display it!

Biggest CRT on the market was the 40" phillips tubed, Loewe Aconda. http://www.subito.it/audio-video/tv-loewe-aconda-9...

92kg! We had one, cracking picture, but reflective curved screen and just would not fking die. Went in a skip last year as I couldn't give it away.

I wondered how long it would take got someone to mention Spinäl Täp's Stonehenge. Surprised it took until page 4.

Laughed a bit too much at the massive cat headstone. 🙀

God, that brings back memories. When mine was delivered, I had to unpack the bugger in the front garden because the box wouldn't fit through the front door.

Even the stand was a monster.
