Northern quarter is full of people on a night out on their credit cards. A few good bars. Three tops. I used to live IN the NQ 10yrs ago. It's now Hen Parties, Stags and overpriced beer.

Twenty Twenty Two is a good bar there. The good places are now on the fringe.

Tbh though NQ is probably the best you'll get in the centre.

If you like walking the Refuge is good and there's still good other places within reach of that.

Must admit, if I was heading to a strange town for the 1st time, I would have no problem going into a gay bar/club.
Been to a few in my time and found them to be friendly and good music.

Soho London and Manchester. Agree. Not bad tunes too. Nice restaurant on canal Street too. They aren't aliens after all.

Don't bother looking for any Manchester music-scene stuff while there. New bands, sounds, etc. It's pretty much all gone. The scene is almost completely dead.
Apart from Gullivers, The Castle, The Night and Day, Sound Control, Deaf Institute, Gorilla, The Ruby Lounge and The Soup Kitchen. Oh and Rebellion, the Live Room, Band on the Wall, any of the three smaller academy halls (2, 3, and club). Other than that, the scene is almost completely dead.
