Some people would say anything other grey or navy suit with black shoes is infra dig for work.
Unless you are a lowly back office executive worker.

Probably I am. But I have interviewed many people for City jobs and every detail was noted. The point about the watch was something that was inappropriate for the position. If he didnt have a good watch then no watch may be better.
What kind of watch is appropriate to what position? Or it just a question of wearing a watch of more than a certain retail price?Dr Jekyll said:

It's not going to be about price. A Rolex diver on a rubber strap or a NATO is going to look wrong under a sober suit, whereas a simple white faced steel or gold watch on a leather strap will fit in. Let's be honest, they aren't going to get close enough to tell an Accurist from a Patek or a JLC, are they?swerni said:

The last interview I had, I was wearing jeans and blue converse.
I was however wearing an expensive watch if that helps.

Were you around for the discussion around fitting in with different office cultures recently, or did you ring in sick that week? I'm very sure that you could attend some interviews in t shirt and jeans; media and some aspects of IT spring to mind. I'm very sure that customer facing banking and finance isn't one of them. The last interview I had, I was wearing jeans and blue converse.

I work in various places in the food industry. Right now it's a collar and tie environment, last place had 3 sites, each with a different dress code. I could do without the collar and tie TBH, when you are lugging temperature logging equipment around a factory and getting food splashes on your collar and cuffs a silk tie is a PITA. I'm not allowed to have a watch in the factory, so mine spends most of the day in my jacket pocket, which is a shame. It means my nicest watch stays at home and the cheapies get used.

My last interview in December I wore a tie, had to take it off before I returned to my regular job so as not to arise suspicion. I wore a tie to my first day in my new job today, but not sure how long that will last before it gets shoved in a drawer. The last interview I had, I was wearing jeans and blue converse.
