A quick pic of the latest purchase to arrive. Have got some more on the way.

To Chebble, adidas are just releasing some amazing stuff at the minute. It's all I'm buying. Last pair of Nikes I bought were some Zeros in November, it's just been adidas since then. Do fancy some of the new dunks though with the speedo insoles

Finally, a positive of life in Northern Ireland! The Gazelle OG is still one of the more common shapes here alongside the Hamburg but they're still not super common. Not many people here take notice of Adidas trainers from what I've seen, though I did get a nod from a guy in Forest Hills once with a pair of Milano on - so there must be a few of us out there.

I ruined a few pairs of Forest Hills when I was at uni. Then a few years after I ruined a few pairs of London's, all just going out to stey sticky floored night clubs in Old St and the West End. If only I knew when I was younger laugh

These are coming up soon, Nike x Comme des Garcons 'Vapormax', one of the most mental looking trainers ive ever seen.

I agree, Adidas are on it at the moment. The EQT is already becoming the trainer that everyone buys this season. It's just like a couple of years ago, when all you saw was people in Nike Roshe's.

Do you guys mainly collect just leisure trainers or is there a subset for more technical running shoes (inov8 are funky for example) or have I totally missed the point?

Is there a 'holy grail'?

Each to their own really. I love modern Adidas stuff (NMD, Yeezy, Tubular) as well as 90s Nike Air Max.

I'm really not into Adidas Originals like the Sambas etc.. Posted above. But.. We're all different and that is what I love about sneakers, the variety is almost endless.

For me personally I have a passionate hatred for the Converse All Star.. Others love them.

My 'Grail' changes on a daily basis though! Can't say there is one single pair I really aim for. I like quantity and variety.

I'd agree with that. I do have a thing for Adidas originals that stems from my teenage indie days, which as I said, has seen a re-emergence of late. In fact, now I think about it, it's approaching 10 years since I got a pair of the Forest Hill re-issues that kicked it all off. I think they're awful now, but then, I was 16, and to be fair I've just bought a pair of blue suede Adidas so what do I know? Haha.

That said, I also like the more 'functional' trainers such as Air Max/Adidas EQT/NMD etc.

It's a bit strange, a thread on trainers and no mention of Air Jordan's. I still have my original Air Jordan IV and Vs from 89/90. Wish I'd never worn the bloody things as the limited edition Vs had been making $2k+. I've bought a few re-releases over the years from Flight Club in NYC, but I tend to now only buy the technical running shoes (just got a pair of the camo instapumps from there) and limited edition Hurraches. Not such a fan of the retro styles like gazelles or shell toes although some colours are cool. I did get some rather natty pink suede Puma Basket classics from Selfridges only £38 quid at the moment (they are women's but I like colours better).

The Nike Comme Des Garçons are a want.

They're the new EQT 93/17. PK upper and boost though, if you look carefully they have the 3 stripes running into the boost

EDIT - no idea why it's posting the pic the wrong way...

Everyone is different, there are some people who just grab the latest and greatest to show off (called Hypebeasts if you see the term being banded around), but that's all good. I just buy what I like, the tech stuff like the boost from adidas is great, but if it's not a nice shoe I won't get it for the sake of it.

For me the shoe that is massively overhyped is the Yeezy, everything that the shoe is about should appeal to my tastes, but for me they just look a bit crap. The only reason I'd get a pair would be to make money on (you can easily Triple your outlay, a friend sold a pair he wore for 6 months for £900, they were still in good condition though).

If it looks good and I can afford it it gets bought, it's as simple as that. Doesn't matter if it's a £30 sale shoe or the latest ultraboost that sold out in 2 mins online - I managed to get a pair though luckily

I like Adidas Originals, however I do not like the sambas at all! They do not seem too popular here SE, air max and rosche runs seem to be the big thing!

Retro runners are becoming popular now I like the look of these (adidas Havan) and they seem to go on sale pretty quickly so I may be adding a pair in the next month! I have not got or ever owned a pair of gazzells so I will be looking to get a pair, I would like red and white however adidas do a spezial in red and white with a gum sole which I prefer!

I stick to adidas now however I did have a pair of asics (gel lyte 3's) which were nice. They are different and due to the amount of materials used they create some really nice trainers!

Nor do I mate, but the enjoyment of collecting isn't in buying everything. Curating is as much a part of it too, which is why I'm selective about what I tend to buy. For what it's worth I really like those petrol coloured Spezials you showed.

Edited by Levin on Thursday 2nd February 22:37
Thanks, I really like them however I am obsessed with keeping the white sole clean, so they get worn on dry days only! I clean them with a toothbrush and fairy liquid after every wear!

I like the 350s but I'm worried they're going to go a bit chavvy/hipster like Hamburg's as they're readily available now.

I found some £20 Los Angeles in the sales and they're extremely comfortable and go great with Edwin's and Armani's.
Thoes 350's shown were/are a size exclusive so hopefully that colourway will stay limited!

How do the LA's fit (width wise) as I like them but I have quite wide feet! I am a 7.5uk in spezial and 8.5uk in the Busenitz.

What people collect varies. Personally, I like heritage designs; whether they're a perennial release or a relaunch of an older style the history appeals to me. A lot of the time these heritage designs were once considered quite technical. As an example, the Adidas Milano was originally designed as an indoor training shoe while the ZX400 was an advanced running shoe. Now they're both fashion choices because their designs have been thoroughly surpassed.

As for a holy grail, it depends on what you like. For some people a holy grail shoe would be an original example of a beloved style: a pair of Gazelles made in the 1960s could do it for someone while another person would rather have an original pair of Jordans in a specific colour scheme. There are others who lust after the current Yeezy Boost 350 models and, in some very particular cases, people who own the only extant pair of a particular release (for example, a pair of Adidas Cord made in the 1970s - from what I remember there really is only one known pair left).

I don't think I've ever been that particular but you'll definitely keep them fresh looking if you take that much care. I noticed you also said you weren't too fond of the Samba, but I do owe it a debt of sorts as it's the trainer which got me into trainers. :P

Kick it all off again by buying one of the pairs of 2005 Forest Hills for sale on eBay at the moment for £150! I couldn't believe the listing when I first saw it, for the seller had a nearly complete size range they'd held a decade and more.

I think I want some micropacers. I used to buy trainers from tk maxx and sell on ebay in 2004/05 and there were these adidas I sold a few pairs of in the micro pacer design without the electronic bit

Very comfortable but alas it was a business for me and I couldn't afford to keep them for myself. They were £60 in tk maxx IIRC

Also quite cool were adidas italia. Happy days when I found a pair of them or some Y3s!
