A neighbour was having a quiet smoke a few days ago. Usually I can't stand the smell of modern strains, but this smelled like a freshly-poured IPA. Lovely!

Apparently there's a good reason for this

I really don't like the smell of oranges, especially when they're being peeled.

My absolute favourite smell is the inside of my dogs ears. I could sit with my nose stuck in them for hours. Fortunately they are very patient. I can't describe it but it is incredibly 'homely' .

My dogs paws - they're like a heady mix of warm popcorn and meaty gravy. Ideal when I need a break from having my nose down their ears and need a quick 'scent reset'.

When I'm not sniffing dogs, I enjoy the the smell,of new Tarmac, especially when wet, petrol, and the rubber smell of wellies, which is a addictive. There's also a particular bush (fnak fnak) which flowers in the summer, no idea what it is but whenever I pass by one, it's like an instant time machine back to my childhood as I had them in the garden as a kid. Lavender plants in full bloom when they're teeming with bees in the summer is also lovely.

I despise strong air fresheners, they have triggered migraines in the past. Fox poo is horrendous when the dogs roll in it, those fruity vapes clouds turn my stomach. There are plenty of smells I come across in work that are pretty dreadful, which don't bother me that much, but the smell of gangrene is fking horrendous.

For good reason, it shares the same ingredient as vomit (and many other things) - butyric acid.

Lots of solvents and hydrocarbon smells please my sniffer.

Fresh skunk odor (of the animal variety) and decomposing flesh are about the most offensive smells to me.

New car smell from the 80's - particularly on a hot day. What was it that they changed in production or materials since then? Different plastics? I've not smelt it for many years.

Same. I don't smoke (makes me feel sick (un)fortunately) but I absolutely love the smell of the unburnt stuff.

Also; I accidentally bought a tangerine flavoured shower gel (two for one - picked two up without thinking) and it smells like a tangerine flavoured pop you used to be able to get from Boots back in the mid 90s (I imagine it fell out of favour when it was proved to cause type 2 diabetes in all those who drank it). I really, really like the smell of it! The only issue being I leave the house smelling a little more fabulous than I would usually aim for. But that's OK.

Well if I've learnt anything from this thread its that there's a lot of people sniffing specific areas of dogs!

Me, cant beat the smell of WD40 or GT85

Hate the smell of cold food that should, or previously was hot such as a freshly opened tin of beans or a tupperware of leftover bolognese yuck

The best smell is your own kids, you are hardwired to love it! (I guess this might fade as they age).

Not a fan of:

- Dishwasher steam
- Air from tyres
- Dog

Me too!

New telegraph poles seem to still use it.

I don't like the smell of rice cakes. Nasty things earn in the office by dieting women. I can smell them a mile off! In fact most people seem to enjoy being in all sorts of odrous wonders for lunch including reheated fish cakes, egg, French cheese, soups etc which I think is a bit anti social!

Yup, hops are in the same family.

Worked on a Hop farm when I was a teenager. The smell does get a bit overpowering, as does the graft. Jesus that was the hardest job I ever did.

Also I can confidently say that even though hops are from the same broad family as cannabis, smoking dried hops is not a very rewarding experience!

When the driver of the meat lorry had just filled my shop fridge full of fresh carcases ,love it and petrol as others said older car fumes, bacon etc.

Hates :- belching diesel fumes from busses or lorries on a hot summers day.
Dog poo.
Dirty fishmongers that haven't cleaned the shop correctly.
Some of my customers houses that smell of old wee , or it's them I don't know.

Now I'm cooking one of my favs ,curry.

Same here, glad I'm not the only one.

Hot tarmac
Walking past someone who has a pipe on the go (tobacco, not weed)
Petrol
Coffee, even though I don't drink it
Freshly opened packet of cigarettes – I'm a non-smoker but if they tasted like they smelt I'd probably start
Fresh sheets
Steak on a grill

Hate:
Mushrooms. The smell, the shape, the texture, the taste...

Love the smell of old school leaded petrol.

Absolutely hate the smell of tinned tuna, I have never eaten it, I never want to eat it, I won't prepare anything that requires it (sandwiches for other people for example), the smell is just rank.
