I have recently had a Sheepskin fur coat made. I love it! It feels luxurious and I can wear it on nights out and to rugby matches with just trousers, jeans and a long sleeved shirt or t- shirt.

What are your thoughts on fur! I would not wear, any other fur. I feel that sheep are being killed for meat anyway therefore it is ok to wear a ship skin coat. In the same way I wear leather shoes and have leather handbags but would not have alligator or snake skin.
My personal view of fur is that sheep don't have any!!!!

My Grandmother had a fox fur with the head and tail, but I wouldn't wear fur except for all the fur my cat leaves everywhere around the house (I should collect that and make a coat smile )
Snap. At my mums now and my daughter wears it when she goes round there.

To over simplify it I'll wear any animal you can eat.

I know pretty much any animal can be eaten but in a modern, developed first world country the hide/fur should be a secondry consideration when slaughtering an animal.
I'd add pest species to that list. Here in NZ, we have around 50 million possums (invasive aussie import), and they need to be eradicated. Their fur is some of the best anywhere (one of a handful with a hollow fibre) and buying it is hugely ecologically beneficial.

It's interesting that people make such a fuss about fur but there isn't the same militant campaigning against leather.
I hate to point out the blindingly obvious, but cows aren't farmed for their skin.

Some cows are farmed primarily for their skins, with the meat a by-product. The amount of leather used nowadays is hilarious, much much more than the old days. Think of all the cars sold with leather interiors, sofas, shoes and handbags to name only a few products. Leather sofas and car interiors are a relatively modern thing. Shoes, clothes and bags have been made from leather since the dawn of time.

...And leather isn't necessarily cow, it can be any tanned animal skin.

A tiny percentage of 'leather' goods are 100% leather though. Hardly any leather is going into your average 'leather' sofa.

I have a pair of rabbit fur lined peccary gloves - I don't think a man can really get away with anything else. I justify rabbit fur in the same way as the OP justifies sheepskin.

I do think a woman wearing furs can be very attractive in the right scenario but faux fur is hideous and should be avoided at all costs.

I have Coyote fur on my Woolrich Parka. Fake fur looks so naff and I would never buy a coat with fake fur because it just screams "cheap" to me. I would rather have a coat without it. Real fur stays fluffy and soft.

I think fur is fking cool.

I have a canada goose jacket, fur lined hood is Coyote. I don't have any ethical issues with it.
Does the goose part go 'meep meep' on principle?

Is the animal bred to be mainstream food? If YES - skin is fine on shoes, jackets, jumpers etc

Is the animal bred to be a bit of clothing - and food bits go to waste.. Not good.

I bought a full length fur coat over 35 years ago and wear it occasionally in the winter months.
