Small turbine engine? I think that is a gas/propane connector at the front.
Have some internet brownie points! It is a small jet engine, bit archaic by more modern turbine engine standards but still runs perfectly.

and x2 glow plugs on the side for ignition.

if not glow plugs, then terminals for a coil pack to connect to, to do their sparky thing smile
They're just a couple of cap screws that hold the combustor in place, the glow plug hole is on the otherside.

Any plans for an afterburner ?

Don't want to have to carry all that un-used fuel all the way back inside do you wink

Cool, have you used it to actually propel something, or is it just for principal demonstration purposes?

If you havent, go check out Colin Furze on youtube wink

Did anyone else scan the title, replace the 'n' with an 'l' and expect the thread to develop rather differently? paperbag

I used to fly model aircraft and they were built for those, along with a very scary, modified GoPed around 2002ish. I have a couple of commercial micro turbines and dozens of home built engines in various states of repair, along with an APU from a Chinook that needs a refurb.

But all these things got put on hold while I went to uni about a decade ago, now I'm just about finishing my doctorate I might have some spare time at last to start building and flying again.

Somewhere, I have a piston from Nelson Piquet's 1981, Argentine GP winning Cosworth. Damned if I know where it is though.

Isn't that going to be around 70-80 bhp? Please tell me you were planning on building a huge model aircraft with that in!

I often take cranktrain components into schools as part of our STEM initiative. I'm often pleasantly suprised at how knowledgable some of these students are about these engine components. One student (age 13) assembled the crank, rod, shells, piston and rings in about 1 minute. He later told me he sees these things all the time in his kitchen at home. I need to meet this guy's Dad!

I have a McLaren V8 full short block in my living room as a coffee table. That gets everybody asking questions.

No, but years of poor spelling on the internet means I automatically read it as "Bought" rather than "brought" even though OP got it correct. I came on to see if anyone had corrected him, but the thread was more interesting.

I have an (upside down) cylinder liner from an Alfa twincam as a pen pot.

(To make the pens a decent height there is a piston in there).

Wonder if anybody here knows what this object sat on my desk at work is?.... It's not a piston but a nice engineering thing I made myself way back when I was a teen, which also gets brought out occasionally to help teach undergrads.

Cocktail shaker with built in lemon squeezer?

I knew they we oval, pistons, but not that they had twin conrods! Thank you for that.
One of the trinkets I am looking for, for my mancave, is a mahoosive piston from a train or ship. The hunt continues.....
I once had a piston out of a large marine diesel on my ship, but it was so heavy I had no way of getting it home as I only ever took carry-on bags on the plane. I did bring home the supercharger off of a 6V71 Detroit Diesel engine once though. It is still waiting to be used some day....

And I have the piston and rod out of a top fuel dragster, bought off eBay, as they are changed out after every pass, damaged or otherwise. cool
