The story so far, sitting at home today i hear a funny noise like a stone being kicked down the road.

I walk into the lounge thinking some crap might have fallen down the chimney, nope nothing, i'll just have a quick look outside.

Car is fine but looked over to my van.. grr lots of mud and crap has come out of the guttering onto the bonnet -

Hmm hang on theres a few tiles there... bugger its put a nice few dents in the bonnet!

Neighbour came out and explained how she heard a big bang and noticed something flying past. Talked for a bit and i said its a few tiles but they have put some nice dents in the bonnet.

Walk up the drive to see what the roof looks like, ay up....

F**k me i was lucky with a few dents on the bonnet. House tiles dont look so good...

Go to get on the phone to house insurance and notice this!

Bloody wind...

Why did your van have a chimney pot? Have you got a wood burner in it?

Oh no! Could have been worse, what are you going to look like with a chimney on you? (as someone almost nearly sang)

This is my neighbours, my missus thought it was our shed roof but thankfully not...

Wow! Went from bad to worse. Thankfully, no one hurt. I'm in Cumbria and am expecting snow and gales.

Hailstones in Sydney last week the size of cricket balls caused millions of dollars in damage to property and vehicles. So you aren't doing too bad, hope you manage to get it sorted quickly.

True it could be worse. You can see my little boys car seat in the front....

Just the pain of sorting the insurance out for the roof, John Lewis can't get anyone out until Wednesday
Next week so we have to pay for a temp repair which if they agree storm damage we get back.

Van will be written off so it next week before they can assess it, probably offer me nothing for it then find a new one.
Cambelt went late last year so the engine is as good as new....

Does anyone know how it works if I want to keep it? They write it off, pay me a sum, can I offer to buy it back?
I know it will be classed etc but I planned on running it to the ground.

Maybe I get one of those pop up bed roofs...idea

There's a few pictures of damaged vans on the T5 forum, seems you're not the only one.

Last big gale in 2015 saw a shipping container roll across a field till it hit this car. We had no power for 9 days. There were so many damaged buildings, that some houses were only getting their roofs fixed properly 6 months later. Bloody love Harris!

Quite confident it will be.

Repair bonnet is no problem how would you repar the roof?
A couple of dents further along the roof.

Knock the fker out from the inside.

I presume car insurers won't touch this sort of thing but home insurance will cover it

Unfortunately the roof will have stretched, so knocking it back out will not result in a perfect roof. It'll look better, but you'll always see the dents.

You can 'buy the van back' if the company intended to write it off, cash in lieu I believe it's called. It doesn't necessarily result in a Cat D either.

Nope it's the car insurer that will pick it up.

Even if you park next to my roof and my tile slips off in a storm then I have no liability to you unless I was aware the roof was in a bad/dangerous state.

House insurance just said its my car insurance I need to speak to, I thought it was worth the question.

I could live with the dent if I can get it semi flat, so I would get an agreed price say £7-8k then I would get chance to buy it back out of the payout? I'm not sure if it would just go to salvage, a shame as it's quite a straight van, colour coded, racking perfect for my job etc.

£800 worth of excess for both anyway frown

That roof could be shrunk back in by a good metal man.

However, I don't think they'd do that, instead they'll order a roof skin and install that, possibly just the front section of it.
