As per my previous post, it's a surprise to me that with PH having such well-populated forums, nobody else appears to have experience of bushido schools and the samurai sword training they offer(ed) alongside their Karate and Aikido Te lessons.
I did tb. But I have refrained from posting my experience because no matter how mildly it is phrased, the gang will start giving me metaphorical Chinese burns and nipple tweaks. But your experience mirrors mine - the instructors told you why to strike in certain places, and the damage it would do. Theoretically interesting, but I don't think anyone there ever thought that having that knowledge conferred any hardman points. I also learnt how to use nunchucks as well, which was fun right up to the point I hit myself very hard in the testicles. I saw one chap hit a punchbag with them, and the look of surprise on his face as they bounced off and hit him on the side of the head was quite comical.

Having looked online, there's a bushido MA school in Oxford, or at least there was a year or so ago. It has weekly Aikido Te and samurai sword training sessions and looks to be very close if not identical to the offer from the bushido school I attended.

Classical Aikido enhanced by strikes is exactly what was said on the flyer I responded to many years ago, the only thing it didn't mention was the sword training but that provided a key part of the totally new experience I was looking for.

A couple of questions if I may. Firstly and purely out of interest, what constitutes the bullst you spotted?

Also, what similarities or contrasts are offered by Aikido Te and sword training in terms of the martial art(s) you've been practising?

There is really no such thing as aikido te, but that aside I think most people imagine this guy when they think of any kind of MA weapons practise..

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HPPj6viIBmU

And most of the people who do it think they look like this (or at least they should)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BhjTtVphPOA

And TB you're not really helping the matter with attempts to verbalise your experience.

If so, it's a term in surprisingly common use, and over several decades. From the search I mentioned previously which includes the Oxford school:

Bushido Academy - Aikido-Te

Aikido-Te is a truly effective combat style that is centred on the manipulation of the opponents energy.

That's strange, how else are PHers meant to describe experience on threads...and I don't have any images from back then!

turbobloke, do you have any sense of humour at all, or any ability to see from another set of eyes how it looks when you say things about how you can chop people's heads off with a sword? You seem to lack the sense of self-awareness that would allow you to laugh along at this sort of thing...

Trust me, it's not a thing. It looks like some people caught in someones narcissistic fantasy.

Probably this guy (from the website)

This is the issue. Like I said I have been practicing all sorts of martial arts for many years but the thought of posing for a picture like that would never even cross my mind. The claims of Zen philosophy and warrior spirit juxtaposed with those image are I'm afraid simply funny - that's what makes people laugh.

That's what I've been doing, strangely enough! Whole posts and parts of others are passing people by, never mind.

Feel free to have the last word, then others can get the thread back on track. There's no point discussing things that don't exist wink

I'm wondering how this deadly ninja skill was practiced so that he could reliably decapitate without totally severing?

Answer to the first question is faitly obvious. Second question, I have no idea because I'm not a "karate man that bruises on the inside", like you!

What an amazing thread! The first and last time I ever hit anyone or was hit was when I whacked the school bully in the playground in 1965. I feel like I'm missing out!

Each to their own and fair play to whatever training people partake in. But, I find Karate laughable, same goes for a lot of the classic 'arts'. It's a bit of fun to keep fit, all this stuff about severing arteries is just embarrassing quite frankly. Someone who can grapple and box is 'hard'. Someone who watches 'Kill Bill' and has fantasies about standing in a stream whilst wearing a dress needs to have a word with himself biggrin

But seriously, I need to cater for a large group in approx 9 weeks. If you could help me with the vegetable prep It'd be deadly wink

I fenced competitively for years and got pretty good results at a national level. As such, I'm well qualified to lethally force a blade into a man's heart, eye, or any organ you can name.

I don't say this to sound like I'm a goddamn assassin with an epee or anything, but honestly, if you put me in Alexandre Dumas' France, I would be like a fking God to those people. D'sastrous and the 3 Musketeers. Obviously I'd need my breeches and a properly qualified President to referee, but apart from that, I'd straight up kill everyone.

Not humble-bragging at all though, you feel me?

A lot of nonsense being spouted here as regards to swordsmanship techniques, wasting time with arteries and windpipes. My samuraiTekken teacher always taught the most common techniques usable in everyday situations such as the 'quietwifeshutitchop' - a simple but effective blow that severed the vocal chords but left the mouth usable, not really hurting anyone and a move handy for many different occasions/situations.

Lol

I used to fence competitively too in national squads, I could be Aramis to your d'artagnan?
