Yes its not going to be funny , soon clever people will have to pay stupid ones a fair wage to keep the country running ....
I don't believe they can't get british minimum wage workers. My wife does a minimum wage job, and you have to get formal qualifications to do it. They have no problem recruiting. My son is a student and would love a part time minimum wage job, but everywhere he's applied just say they have a long waiting list.Pret is hardly a crap place to work. I could understand it if they were talking about care work, or labouring.

That they're visiting schools is quite a good idea. You will be sitting in your class and someone who is offering you work standing at a cash register selling sandwiches should be enough to get your nose in a textbook.powerstroke said:

Or they ps off abroad for somewhere with more freedom to employ the best and leave you wondering what went wrong. You could start up your own "mecanic" business and pay top rates. Perhaps you already do. If not are you going to do that, do your bit to make brexit work, or are you expecting others to sort out your vote for you and keep you in employment?
Long thread on Pret here, perhaps mods can merge?

This is not just about pret. The wider issue is that realistically people cannot live on minimum wage yet to someone from Poland where they may earn 15 quid a day, the idea of 64 or more a day is very attractive. Where minimum wage was intended as a lower safeguard, with an influx of people willing to work for it, the race to the bottom has ensued

The problem is not that Pret pay nmw. That's a given for this type of job.
People will say "ahh yes but it's lazy Brits who don't want to work" vs "hard working foreign devils" But that's not the case as your son has discovered.
My belief (from anecdotal stuff elsewhere) is they expect a lot of hours. i.e sometimes nearer 50 a week, regularly. So the job is not as attractive as any other job paying minimum wage but offering less hours a week. The Work/Life balance is completely screwed when working for those jobs. Or (and not so much in Prets case) there's lots of graveyard shift work for nmw. Which if you have a uni/college place makes it difficult.
People who have travelled away from their European country (I'm thinking south of Hungary and East of Poland) will be more keen, and employers less bothered about their staff, can ultimately work them hard or tell them to leave, since there's a flood of European natives to replace them.

This has been my point on numerous threads Yet you'll get the same tired stereotype of "lazy brits" who don't want to work themselves to the bone for nmw.
And I say that who doesn't earn NMW, but can see the drawbacks to the race to the bottom we are encouraging with these low IQ, low ability to speak English, low desire to integrate and follow our customs migrants.
I have direct, daily experience of a fair number of the latter! Their supervisors are great, fluent, get our way of life, are great fun and have a laugh with. But the people under them (hired by the management, not supervisors) are smashing the notion that "Only the best migrants come here" They're WORSE than low IQ brits because at least the brit equivalent can understand you! And you don't need to find the supervisor to translate basic instructions!

This !! or maybe we can get the "lazy" brits to house share with 10 others do 1 PAYE job and some cash in hand work until they have saved enough cash to go to eastern eurrope to buy a small house and live happily ever after.....or they could learn to work the benefits system !!!no sirree brexit won't be good for the self entitled smug middle classes , if we lose the hard working immigants !!!!
It might just help level wages from some non job to the hard working manual jobs people that really keep the wheels on the economy !!!

Banana Plugs will be ok again. The EU banned plugging in speakers with banana plugs, as the European plug is also 2 pronged and they deemed it a safety risk.
All the media attention on bent bananas and no body ever defended the poor banana plug.
That's ok but who will plug them in if we don't have immigrants???All the media attention on bent bananas and no body ever defended the poor banana plug.

Not only are they here, they're still coming. Despite the fact that some say there'll soon be nothing to come here for.
I guess for the likes of Italy (EU member with 38% youth unemployment and wages no higher than at the turn of the century) the UK is still not that unattractive.
