Looks like I'm moving to Sky broadband as they offered a great deal. The only problem is that the router only has 2 ethernet ports and I really need 4.

http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/networks/1404519/sk...

The article says connect an ethernet switch. Excuse my ignorance but is this just something I just buy and plug into one of the ports thus adding more ports and job done?

Also any advise on what switch to buy please?

Gigabit version cheaper from Amazon or a 10/100 switch for peanuts (also from Amazon).

OP go with the recommendation from poster above me and get a Gigabit switch
The Sky Q has 2 Gigabit ports it makes sense to maintain that fast connectivity.
Get the Gigabit version switches and look at how many things you will need connecting. Remember a 5 port switch will allow you to connect 5 devices but one of these will be the link back to the router. If you feel you will need to connect more than 4 devices then consider the 8 port versions. The increased outlay now is better than buying a 5 porter now and then in 6 months needing to add to it.
Good luck

I have a netgear 8 port gigabit switch that works very well which I bought from PC World (they sometimes have offers on) I just wanted it there and then and went in and bought it rather than waiting for the post. They don’t have any offers on mine at the moment but I noticed these. The TP Link stuff is quite good and they do a well priced 8 port version. The styling may not be to your style

Good luck oh and if you go mail order buy a couple of spare Ethernet cables. They are quite pricey in shops ( Maplins/ PC World take the rip) but they are useful to have in just in case. A bit like an extension lead or one of those 2 way mains plug adapters. You never know when you are going to need one.
Good luck

I need to buy by the end of this month, that's when I move from BT to Sky broadband.

Is this a good unit? Sounds daft but it looks so much better than the others.

They all just pretty much do the same job. Some have better Ethernet qualitity sockets on them but if your not going to be plugging and unplugging it wont really be a concern
