I'm still in my old town's FB group, and all hell has broken loose. Travelodge have got planning permission to build a hotel on what is a disused but prime bit of real estate right in the high street. This is a commuter town with perfect links to London, coast, everywhere really.
Immediate issue for the NIMBYs was that it was to be used for 'immigrants' and it's gone all the way up to the local MP. While I find the overall reaction on the group amusing, there is a sinister undertone to a number of the comments.
I mean, why else would they build a hotel in a prime location if not to house a few hundred migrants?
Sounds like Ashford, however you said 'prime location' and the high street here is crap. But TBH both of the towns Holiday Inns are housing foreign nationals, and a great many hotels in other towns in Kent.Immediate issue for the NIMBYs was that it was to be used for 'immigrants' and it's gone all the way up to the local MP. Uproar in the MK groups, apparently Eastenders has had an episode portraying an estate in MK (filmed in barnet) that makes it look like a drug den dive, we have several of these estates in MK such as Fishermead and Coffee Hall but there is uproar about TV making MK look bad.
My reply of "its not real" is getting negative replies.

Some of the estates in MK are in the top 10% most deprived in the country. Some proper stholes . The screenshot I saw was a massive improvement over some of the MK estates. My reply of "its not real" is getting negative replies.

We had a road closure 9am to 3.30pm for road resurfacing. It was done in the middle of last year but the surface lifted and had to be redone.
Cue loads of "what's wrong with it?", "who's paying for it?" etc.
The job was finished in 3 days instead of the 5 that was planned. The usual "well done"s, tagged names. 1 guy had a go at the contractors for not trimming the trees along the stretch of road, another agreed it wasn't on. Why in the Lord's name would a tar contractor cut trees? I despair of some folk.

On the same line, the roads around here are very bad so people screaming to get them fixed. So they have the go ahead to resurface the road at night because part of it is outside a school. It's for three nights. And right on cue... "This isn't fair to local residents!" "Why does it have to be done at night?!" "My sleep will be disturbed!" etc etc.Cue loads of "what's wrong with it?", "who's paying for it?" etc.
