Not sure if you know this but it's a job here too, they have them regularly at places like Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament to prevent the pigeons getting too cosy. The one in T Square is usually there very early, have seen him a few times. As you say, very effective and doesn't cause any harm (usually).
I have seen them fry one around Lloyds of London
I thought they were protected.

A few years ago in a hotel in Madeira, that's what they did. Chap turned up with a his bird, let it fly around for an hour or so, that frightens the seagulls away, then he popped his bird back in it's box, got on his moped and off to the next hotel. But he said it only keeps them away for a few days, so he has to come and do it again. And again. His bird never attacked the seagulls, it just flies round and gives them the willies. So a job for life for both of them !

Yep, first time I saw them it was quite amazing. Such a traditional but effective solution, I've often wondered about the business model. Is that all they do, what's the cost look like, how did they get into it etc etc. One of those jobs that you just never hear of until you spot them.

I never delete a photo, so here's the one at the hotel.

It is indeed a Harris Hawk, which from what I've read, is the hawk of choice for such tasks.

I'd pick a BAE Systems Hawk. More fun, although not sure whether the effect last for days!

I did a half day at a falconry place some years ago, including going for a walk in the woods with a couple of Harris Hawks. Fascinating birds, apparently they will hunt in packs, and if the prey disappears in to the undergrowth the smaller males will run in to the undergrown to flush the prey out for the others to catch.

The posting rules in NP&E, but only when I haven't noticed that I've zig-zagged to that forum and I have an astonishingly insightful reply typed out and ready to be rejected.

I guess the thing that actually annoys me is me, largely for not noticing which forum I am in.

Bots on customer service annoy me, they know nothing but just want to get your email address

Even real people on Customer Service annoy me, they ask a hundred questions and don't give you the answers you need.

The worst CS was from a well known frying pan maker, a pan two months old and it had the coating lifting, he was looking for any excuse to blame me from washing it in too hot water to cooking the wrong food.

Another was from CS at a company that sells spray kitchen cleaner, on the front of the container it said good for all kitchen surfaces, on the back in tiny, tiny print it said don't use on painted or varnished surfaces.

It took the paint off my oven. Customer Services behaved as if it was the legal Department so I guess I wasn't the first.

Dispute with EDF , bill has estimated reading for two days, why I give you meter readings every month.

Computer also charges a higher rate for unit and day , explained they need to get their IT department to sort it out, no they generate another bill which has the same fault.

Explained six times what the problem is, do they read the reason for my complaint? No just generate another incorrect bill.

Yes. We have one listed for sale on t’bay if you fancy a wander down memory lane.

My son will fire up a Motorola V50 from time to time but there’s no network it works on around here. Annoys him beyond...

God yes! I passed the 1000 post landmark about two months back.

But at least 10 times I went to reply and couldn't.

I actually avoided that entire section as I'd often see something which made me want to reply but couldn't

We once stayed at the Gatwick Marriot hotel ahead of a flight to Greece. Mainly as our daughter was very young and we wanted to avoid an early start.

Instead we listened to doors slamming half the night which rather defeated the object of staying there!

A friend had a Harris Hark. A more vicious, hardcore bird you will never encounter. I had to take it to the vet once, I was driving whilst my friend had it on his glove, all hooded up. The hood partially came off halfway there, how I didn't crash I will never know. You'd be amazed how quickly bird that size can fill a Mk1 Fiesta with wingspan and rage.
