Just put a DVD into my player to watch on my PC. It won't let me bring up the menu to start the film, its cycling though other film trailers and the menu option is greyed out.

Switch to WinX DVD ripper and extract the film to watch.
What ! and miss the DVD Piracy warnings ?

I think you're being unfair to Philadelphia!

I've experienced exactly the same queueing agony in Dallas, Las Vegas, Charlotte and New York (both Newark and JFK).

There's an amusing irony to the fact that you;re going to a country where the people are generally friendly and welcoming, and service is efficient and prompt, but your first experience of it is to shuffle through a hall for hours while a number of miserable, officious and unhelpful work-to-rule types seem to go out of their way make your first entry into their country as slow, painful and miserable as possible.

Yes, there are exceptions - I had a right laugh with one hilarious officer late at Newark one night, but this is very, very rare.
Been through US Immigration maybe 15 times and this lone traveller
has been dealt with in under 8 minutes most times. All they want to hear
is what you will be doing while in the USA and when you'll be leaving.

I think people's inability to fill in the Customs Declaration Form
correctly is a cause of delay, e.g the official doesn't have to ask what is your address while staying
in the US if you've filed the answer, same with your passport number and flight number.
I went some years ago (pre-9/11), was wearing a Che Guevara t shirt, nothing too political probably a Primark special. The guy on the immigration desk decided to take offence at it, for some reason. Cue me arguing with US Immigration knobber at Logan about the definition of terrorism, the US support of the IRA and bombs in bins near schools happening a lot more recently than Guevara allowing his face to be put on casualwear. American prick.

Sound levels depending upon which channel I'm watching.

Our ancient Sony Bravia TV is usually on volume 12/100, but I've just tried to watch Shardlake on Disney+, I had to have it on 100/100 to hear the dialogue, but the noise and distortion was intolerable, and I still couldn't follow, so I dropped it back to 50/100 and put the subtitles on, but I still struggled to follow it, I restarted thrice, 15-20 mins in each time, experimenting with volume, but I eventually gave up and binned it off, switching back to Stargate on channel 36 at the usual 12/100, no problem. My wife is now continuing with Shardlake on her tablet with her headphones on. Why can't I watch it on the telly at a normal volume and follow it all? confused

I swear I have seen that place for real. I think it is in Hawaii, out in Mililani or Pearl City, or something.

Ahh, Philidephia.

That bastion of US immigration efficiency and proactivity.

NOT.

Six and half hour flight over (may have been seven) and just over 50% of that time again, spent whilst one immigration official did their utmost to pee of every single arriving passenger for the whole Sunday.

Did eventually make a connection, but nearly fours hours to then meet Mr I don't care. Sheesh.

Never again, Philly.

In the past 19 months I’ve been to the US nine or 10 times.

Longest wait was at Newark, probably about 35/40 mins.

Last trip via Pittsburgh, less than 20 seconds.

The joys (and benefits) of a) Global Entry and b) a quieter air

This!

On satellite box and sound bar, volume up in the 30s or even higher. Yet using the apps independently via the smart tv, even player or Prime, (which I was previously watching via sat box) volume low teens.

FFS!

I've usually been fine with the first-line immigration officers. it becomes a nightmare when you have to do 'secondary screening'. You go to a 'special room' and life can quickly become very frustrating/unpleasant. In these rooms, one sometimes encounters camp commandant types who have been disappointed by how their lives have turned out and are sure as hell going to do their best to ruin everyone else's life too. Or day, at least.

Disney+ is particularly bad for this with older films. Music/effects really loud, vocals whisper quiet - difficult to watch a film without constantly changing the volume.

Our local parish council are doing No Mow May. In other words, letting everything get overgrown and unkempt and if last year is anything to go by, not starting to mow again until July. The bee`s might be happy, but it makes the place look a proper st tip.
So on 1st June there is a cacophony of flymo's and hedge-trimmers running at full chat as everyone attempts to turn their unwanted jungle back into something that resembles a garden. Yeah great plan, idiots !

Toolstation. Ordered some worktop clamps and Colorfill in black to assist in the join of a bathroom work surface. Someone in that branch is a little colourblind.

Ordered this:

There's an elderly woman living opposite us. 4-5 times a day, presumably her daughter goes round for half hour or so.
Without fail she'll beep her horn twice as she pulls away. Almost like it's a requirement before the car will move.

At some point I'm going to kick her in the face.
