These BEDMAS (or whatever) things should really be in the "things that drive me bonkers" thread. All the mouth-breathers who sat at the back of maths classes looking out the window, arguing about something simple, obvious and well-known.

It's the order you do the bloody calculation in. It's taught in junior school, FFS...this isn't complex stuff.

If you really want to be depressed, Windows Calculator in 'standard' mode for idiots ignores order of operations, and just evaluates from left to right.

What's wrong with reverse polish operations?

Makes no difference. Multiplication and division are commutative, as are addition & subtraction.
