I still have an "I slow down for Pie" PH sticker on my old mountain bike. Must be 20 years old.

1. Doesn't account for unpredictable variation in earth's gravity, or a lunar insertion, or similar. Mass might be going up....
2. "pounds"-[shudder]
3. External dimension growth may hide underlying internal voids, areas of low density or even positive buoyancy in the external atmosphere.

Geek joke? Pah !

More of a sales and marketing joke, predicting sales growth 10 years into the future based on 2 data points 3 months apart.

Yeah. I get it.

"Octopusball is really catching on, it's now the fastest growing sport in the USA"

-. Last week 1 guy invented Octopusball, now 3 people play it in his village hall, and he's told the paper that the number of players is up 300%.

It's not a joke, but I was lying in bed a few days ago wondering, and if this isn't the right place to share my musings...

If it is the job of a spaceship's "shields" to absorb energy from an attacker's weapons, then why should they become more and more depleted as they absorb multiple hits? Shouldn't they get stronger?

Because they have to dump the energy as heat... Powering the heat exchange system uses a lot of MWe.

That's how they work on the USS Dewey.
