PH Secret Santa 2023 - Times are still hard
Discussion
Many thanks to my PHSS for these lovely gifts yesterday.
I need to give my car a wash soon so I shall be using the Auto Glym stuff with gratitude.
The beers were happily consumed before Christmas dinner and the pasta will be used when we have a family gathering.
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and there aren't too many sore heads today.

I'm glad everything arrived in time! Appreciate you might not be showing a few bits for privacy but did I hit the mark with the club?
Apologies my craft skills aren't as good as I'd like, but hopefully it struck the right note regardless!
Apologies Santa, the club sticker certainly hit the mark, good stalking, you are welcome to join the 50/50 club
No criticism from me on your structural build, stood up well to the first game yesterday and gave me a smile.
PS. Royal Mail share price must have soared when you sent out the parcel.

While there are some super cool presents up thread, I have to say, I think I have won this year.
The story includes many twists and turns including recruiting an operative from within Chateau-Moose.
Things started out pretty unexpectedly when my SS hand-delivered my gifts to my porch and I missed them by a matter of minutes…or so I thought. Little did I know, but I had slept for at least 1 night with these gifts mere inches from my head - my SS had recruited Mrs Moose
On Christmas morning, the first thing I tore into was of course my PHSS gifts as is now tradition. The first gift was this…apparently I had been a bad boy and ended up with coal:
I then tore into this:
To find a rather delicious bunch of candy - all my favorites.
Next up was this ‘not a Porsche’:
And it indeed wasn’t a Porsche:
I then was directed to a package of Lemsip’s finest to find a note to be told that I am a sick man
Now, this would have been a good haul except Mrs Moose then handed me the final SS gift…or so I thought (again):
The eagle eyed among you will see my SS was even more devious than ever before by including an entire factory’s worth of glitter. Being a pro at this, I spotted that and opened it over the trash can to save me having to clean it up (well, let’s be honest, not me, but Mrs Moose).
Just as I was about to tuck into a beautiful Sherbet Fountain, Mrs Moose informed me that I was not in fact a pro at this but a mere amateur - in fact, not even anything approaching amateur and there was another gift that had been stashed in my very bedroom for weeks.
Now, I was truly taken off guard and neglected to grab a photo of the pre-opened gift - another decoy. This was a gift within a gift. After finally getting to the bottom of it, it turned out to be this:
There’s a personal/sentimental connection to the pistol that I won’t go into but a truly epic haul this year:

Hold on... Your PHSS got you an actual real life fire arm for Christmas? After finally getting to the bottom of it, it turned out to be this:

Is it possible to buy a firearm on behalf of someone else in North America? Having never even looked into gun laws in the US (or had any desire to) I'm just curious more than anything else - does each gun need to be registered to its owner?
On a totally unrelated, theoretical note... legally, if personA gifted personB a firearm (and they were unknown to each other) and PersonB went on a killing spree - does PersonA (as the buyer/registered owner and allowing it to get into undesirable hands) get into grief or does it fall solely on personB?
Better Nate than Lever !
A big "Thank You" or better "muchas Gracias" to my SS, when I saw the sender´s dates on the parcel I thought :
Did I not see this before ? Of course, what are the chances of recieving a gift from my 2022 victim ?
My suspicion was confirmed by the heart-warming text in the card, and luckily no floral LEGO was found,
but a very tasty selection of original spanish sweeties, yum yum.
I have not smelled the PH air fresheners yet, but they might improve the odor of my sheddy Mk5 Golf "Goal"
which I had to buy after my new-ish Dacia was rammed by a tram.
The PH lanyard may be helpful for weekend "work" as track announcer, to hold the "Access All Areas" ticket.
Some of my weekend employers were from the HAMC, the book is one of the very few "inside" reports,
even if Thompson´s Gonzo-style has to be accounted with.
Having been to one of the Grateful Dead live gigs, I am sure the 3-disc set will sound great in the Golf and
on my much-loved "Gateway 2000" ( Altec Lansing) 2.1 sub PC system (with Dolby Surround), posh me.
Many thanks to all involved, my SS, the Captain, and even Bezos/DPD/Hermes for correcting their mischiefs.

Have to say it’s surprising that a firearm is covered by the rough budget of £10
No wonder Americans are shooting each other so much it’s cheaper than a decent cinema ticket
I haven't seen one set of gifts above where the shipping cost would be much under £10...let alone the gifts (with the exception of Amazon!).No wonder Americans are shooting each other so much it’s cheaper than a decent cinema ticket

"Straw purchases" are illegal and treated very seriously (as they should). A straw purchase is when someone gives you money to buy someone else a firearm who wouldn't be allowed to buy (e.g. a felon without gun-rights restored).Giving firearms as gifts is perfectly legal and goes on literally every day (especially Christmas!) all over the country. Also, private sales between 2 people are totally legal and, in my state, do not require background checks (although if you know the other person is a wrong-un then I understand you can get in hot water).
Also in my state (and each state works a little differently I believe), if you have what they call an enhanced Concealed Weapons Permit (eCWP) you don't need a federal background check when you buy any firearm. In reality, when purchasing privately, any sellers have asked me if I have an enhanced CWP.
Also when purchasing privately, I have generally used a "record of firearms transfer between unlicensed persons" form (this is not filed or recorded anywhere, just a copy kept by both parties). I would prefer to keep it clear when I became responsible for any particular firearm.
When it comes to selling privately, well, I've never sold a gun!

First, there is no such thing as a "registered owner" of a firearm.I'm not an attorney, but as I understand it - in your theoretical situation - as long as Person A had no knowledge of Person B being banned from owning firearms (such as being a felon or underage etc) then they would have no case to answer. The first hard part is proving A did not know about Person B's history. The second hard part would be proving A did now buy this firearm as a "straw purchase". This is why using a "record of firearms transfer between unlicensed persons" form is smart along with asking to see/take a copy of a CWP of the recipient.
Finally, if you have any concerns about an individual's ability to legally own a firearm, any dealer will handle the transfer for you for somewhere between $15 and $50.
The £10+p&p is a suggestion and merely discressionary. Santa has clearly done a fair bit of research and rewarded Moose handsomely. No need for folk to get butt hurt - like going back to school and finding your mate got a telly, games and a new console for Christmas!
Basically a straw purchase is like a 16year old hanging around a co-op in the UK and asking someone to buy them a crate of beer. (Albeit on a much more serious scale)
I would have assumed some form of V5C or official title that goes with every gun - that wouldve made my theoretical question make more sense. (And to me seems like a good way to track ownership/responsibility).
I still have zero interest or desire to own a firearm and cannot see why anyone would want to own one but that's not a discussion I particularly want to have, especially here.
Regardless, I'm very pleased for you for recieving gifts that mean so much to you and clearly well researched! Bravo Santa
