I predict a mixed bag of winter weather, it will start out harsh due to various bits of biking kit being delivered in th next couple of weeks.

Then I'll give in to the cold weather and stock up on heating oil and blankets which will swing the weather back to more moderate temperatures.

I'm thinking of getting some new leathers made which would involve getting measured around the beginning of March, this would of course result in a glorious spring as I awaited delivery and immediately turning to constant rain over the summer of '24 once they were delivered.

Essex. Was 24C on Friday. Today it was 9C. Right now 3C and heating on. OK, I guess the summer is officially over!

Wind back the clock 24hrs - we were in Kent, wine country, shorts weather

Went to the pub for lunch, sat outside in the sun, was glorious. Cold in the shade though.

Interested to see what winter will bring. Now that I work from home and the kids are older and not interested I'm not sure how interested I am in snowmaggedon anymore.

Well, you can't really argue with that logic.

The cold weather at the weekend perfectly timed itself with the end of my cheap fixed rate energy plan. The heating is already on. It seems very early this year.

Yep, our 2021 plan has finally run out. Watching the smart meter hitting £5 per day fairly easily now, while during the summer we could sometimes keep it under £1.

Down to 1.1 degrees here last night. Brrrr!

It's currently 3 degrees in South London. I noticed 2 days ago that it went from summer to winter overnight. What the hell happened?

That's the funny thing about people in the heating thread saying things like "I'll be holding out until November at least"

As we've seen, we can vary almost 20 degress in 24 hours when the wind changes from bringing warmth from the south to arctic temps from the north! I'll be surprised if those same people who are now looking at frost in their garden are going to wait another month for any heating.

I think they're the very same people who were out shopping first thing on Saturday morning, still in t-shirts and shorts. Living in their own world without an idea of what is really happening.

Mrs UTH will confirm that I 'run hot' and don't really feel the cold, but I certainly wouldn't want to be sitting in this house with no heating on right now. So I am amazed that people can honestly say they're comfortable in shorts and t-shirts whilst there's frost on the ground, but fair play if they are.

My wife feels the cold more than me and there were utterings about the heating. I thought I was going to get moaned at today because it hadnt come on but actually the house isnt that cold. I have a t shirt and joggers and the window open in my office.

Looking at the history from our Nest thermostats it looks like the heating (radiators and UFH) switched itself on for a short time once last week and again on Saturday. We were out both days and we don’t use the “home away” feature because it’s useless.

We live in a 60s bungalow to which we have done a decent amount of work and have sought to insulate as much as possible each time. It seems to have made a significant difference to gas (LPG cry ) usage.

We were in East Lancashire on Saturday and it was cold (5 degrees when we left the venue for our daughter’s dance competition around 8pm). But at home (West Lancs) yesterday it was a balmy 16 degrees and I was driving the car with the window down and fitting external lights in jeans and t-shirt.

Outside is currently 10 degrees and it’s 20 inside.

Had to defrost the car this morning, that felt like a rude awakening!

Our hearing is oil fired and in since I don’t heat the house when I’m in at home I have a Dyson fan heater with a thermostat set to 17°. Just enough to take the chill off while I’m sat working.

Hard frost on Sunday morning here (Beeston, just outside Nottingham).

Grabbed a can of what I thought was de-icer and gave the windscreen a good spray. No melting occurred... I started swearing about how Prestone products were supposed to be good.

Then I realised that what I'd sprayed was not de-icer, but clutch and brake cleaner.

fks sake.

I'm NOT a morning person and it was early. Cleaned all the cleaner off (it's not good on rubber and plastic).

Glorious in the Peak District though when we eventually got there (bright sun and a biting cold wind), if a bit busy for my taste.

This week is going to be a mess - just click through the pressure charts at https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/maps-and-char...

A real Atlantic dominated week, like we haven't seen for a long time!

There is a chance that a cold Scandi high might appear next weekend - I hope so, better for gardening in France than Atlantic muck.

I dont care if it rains but no big cold snap just now please. I have just tested the central heating and the boiler has gone pop. Hopefully just a PCB or something that can be swapped out easily.

Yep, I'm with you. Now I've accepted the BBQ is out of action for the winter and the patio is probably out of action as well, I don't really care how wet it is, I just want my heating bill to be as sensible as possible. So wet and mild is fine by me for the next 6 months.

At this time of year, it wouldn't be a BftE type scenario.

Looks ominous, more so that we have rain weather warnings for Wed, Thu, Fri and Sat
