The official winter rain, wind, snow and ice thread 2023/24
Discussion
For the two posts above this all I can say is, possibly and probably.
When I came to the UK in the ‘70s you seemed to get four seasons, nice enough summers and far more snow come winter.
Now, snow in the south east seems a rarity and summer is a two week period that is getting shorter.
Apart from Covid. That first lockdown weather was spectacular.
Hopefully, some warmer weather will prevail soon. And drier, at least at the weekend.

So, by your own admission, since you arrived here the weather has got worse......When I came to the UK in the ‘70s you seemed to get four seasons, nice enough summers and far more snow come winter.

It must have been chucking it down all night here, Surrey Gatwick area, as I’ve woken up to a flooded garden….. which I thought we were done for for 2024 but no. Almost May & still wetter than an Otters pocket, jeez!
Same area as you. Rain heavy at 4 am non stop for four hours . Garden flooded too and we are on sand . Heating clicked on about 4 am too.Portofino said:

Surrey Guildford area is the same - at least the tadpoles are happy!North East England - the weather has been truly pants since end of July 2023. Constant rain, freezing cold - in fact I cannot recall a period of dry weather lasting more than 3 days.
Haven’t played golf at my home course since last September, sick of walking the dog on muddy tracks or fields (so much so I’m travelling to different locations where the ground conditions are better).
As someone said, the weather during the first COVID lockdown in Spring 2020 was glorious - just as well as I had taken partial retirement in March 2020. I’m no lentil eating tree hugger but it does make you wonder whether reduced vehicle traffic and virtually no flights had a impact on our weather. Worth some thought.

I remember specifically the period around Easter back in 2010 (I think!), which coincided with the Icelandic volcano erupting that grounded all flights in Europe for weeks. We had two weeks of glorious cloud free skies and wall to wall sunshine…Haven’t played golf at my home course since last September, sick of walking the dog on muddy tracks or fields (so much so I’m travelling to different locations where the ground conditions are better).
