Cad and the Dandy you say? I hope you know how to sew on buttons, because they appear completely unable to do it. All of mine fell off and I even had one ping off in a final fitting once.

Also, on the shirts, if you haven't ordered them, don't. They don't wash well and, again, the buttons fall off routinely. I have never found MTM or bespoke shirts from anyone to be any good, actually. I buy shirts from Eton and Emmett now. They wash and iron endlessly without losing colour (or buttons).
I've had to have a couple of brace buttons sewn back on trousers but they are subject to an amount of friction from the leather straps, so unsurprising to me. Otherwise always been good so far.
Interesting what you say about shirts. Have looked at both Emmett and Eton shirts but haven't found what I'm looking for that would fit.
Considering all options.
Not sure this photo does it justice, but this Eton shirt is five years old and has been washed endlessly. However the finish still “shimmers” like a new one.

Budd has come highly recommended by Kirby Allison and one of the tailors I spoke to Saturday.
I will be up to town at least once in the next two weeks, perhaps I'll have a look in.
I've even wandered into Turnbull & Asser lately with no luck and they have a huge selection.
I've found New & Lingwood shirts to be very good, but they have nothing of interest at the moment.

Yup. - I've been buying Eton for over 10 years now. Usually from JulesB when they have one of their regular sales on. There are cheaper shirts than Eton, but I haven't found anything that lasts as well as they do.

Similarly, I get my suits from G&H, Huntsman, and A&S. All of them just seem to last forever, despite getting very regular use. It's a testament to the quality of the materials and manufacture, and the fact that I've managed not to turn into a bloater, that I'm still wearing suits I had made 20 years ago.

I love Budd but the prices seem to have gone bananas

Shirts that I was buying for 110 (60 on sale) are now over 200

I know they are better than CT but for 200 I’d want Katy Perry to be measuring the shirt for me!

The British Heart Foundation shop on Camden High St had loads and loads of Charles Tyrwhitt shirts in perfect condition for a fiver each. It was a rich vein of fabric for a spendthrift like me to mine.

They have, although they aren’t the only ones guilty of that. Think they’re the last shirtmaker in town with a cutting room on the premises.

Where is this? Th shop I went to wasn’t big enough to cut a sandwich, much less shirts. In an arcade I seem to recall.

Upstairs, above the shop in the arcade. Apparently N&L make some of their gowns in the basement of the main shop, too.

As a premium shirt maker, I'd genuinely have thought that Budd would have offered two-button cuffs.

CT do - it is the mark of a better shirt.

But, seemingly, you can have a name, charge mega money and still offer the least possible.

The mark of a better shirt? It’s purely choice.

How much should one of these badboys set you back, then?

Probably not to do with cost, more likely because their bespoke shirts have the single button positioned correctly for each customer. Or something like that.

I can't comment with any certainty on that, but their (N&L) original shop is in Eaton High street. Not sure if any actual tailoring takes place there now aside from measuring up. Still providing clothes, shoes and accessories for the boys.
They have also opened a 'popup' on Savile Row lately which, as explained to me, is primarily focused on gown (possibly other) refurbishment and exhibiting examples of that kind of work.

N&L are quite well known for their high end dressing/lounging gowns.
Ideal for wandering around in your 16 bedroom pile in the country where heating the place a couple of degrees higher would likely cost you more than owning three of their gowns.
Not a lot of change out of £3000 in most cases.
