‘Someone purchased a rowing machine from me last week. They came to my house and collected it in person. Now, a week later, they are putting in a claim with eBay that it’s not the one I advertised it as’

People saying to put a claim in to eBay are mental. He picked it up in person ffs.

Someone posts nonsense on the internet. Turns out he/she is only semi literate and doesn’t understand sentences of more than three words. Should stick to playing outside with his/her friends.

Stand up for yourself more.
Both times you’ve bent over rather than speaking out.

I don’t for a moment believe you didn’t realise the rower was not right when you picked it up, doesn’t make sense at all.

Is the rower a concept II? Just an older model than you were expecting? To be honest a bit of rust wouldn't worry me, they are fairly indestructible! You can check on the monitor how much it's been used (should show you total Kms rowed) and you'll be able to get spare parts if anything needs sorting

Ours is rusty too (near the bottom), the rowing machine that is. Got it cheap and it works.

That's all the sweat that has been dripping on it over the years. Not so bad when it's your own but somebody elses............. vomit

So what do you think I thought then?!
I suspect you didn’t want a confrontation so put it in your car quietly and drove off weeping over its rustiness and different brand than you thought.

In that situation you either a) clock immediately it’s not as described and speak up or b) drive back with it later on and speak up.

To do neither and seek advice on the internet instead is wild.

biggrin

I hate sitting on any warm seat straight after somebody else has been sitting on it.

The only toilet seat I will sit on is mine at home because at least I know whose bums that has touched hehe

Funny. I’m not that meek. Like I said, I was hungry, had the family in the car and evidently i was too trusting of the person selling me an as new rowing machine.

I’m also not asking for advice on the internet as to what to do. If you’d care to read what I’ve written I’ve taken this on the chin and will move on rather than getting frustrated at having the wool pulled over my eyes and not taking enough care to take the time to check.

The purpose of the post was I was just wondering how others may react if they’d fallen foul of the same f up and if others would go hell for leather for ‘justice’ and getting their money back, or, just put it down to experience… on both cases.

I’ve already said I’m prepared to get rid and move on rather than getting all wound up about this.

And then I started a thread and find myself getting all wound up by people who can’t be arsed reading through posts properly.

Also, to add, I’ve been using eBay intermittently for over 20 years. Historically it was all about reputation and honesty, which I fully bought in to, however I’m realising now that it’s about the spin and the sell to get rid of items that have probably been picked up at a car boot.

Maybe that’s the point

Was the rowing machine advertised as a different brand from what you bought? Or was the brand not mentioned in the advert and you assumed it was something it wasn’t? If the former you should ask the seller for a refund. If the latter you don’t have a leg to stand on.
Also how much was it?

I can't see in either case where you have been 'ripped off' tbf

You've neglected to read the T&C's in case one and handed over cash without a proper inspection in case 2

It's a shame and I do feel the frustration but you need to accept the situation and move on

Curious but did the OP pay at the door or via e bay for the rower.
Also OP mentions the words "new other" which is an e bay description if it was described as such then the buyer can expect it to be as such.
Unfortunately by taking it away with him the OP is really a bit stuffed.

You know it is never going to end well when the OP starts attacking posters and getting all hard on the internet!

OP. Grow some mate. Either go and see the guy who you bought the machine off or suck it up buttercup.

Garages now have a new scam to rip off the unwary.

If you get a 4 wheel alignment, it's the custom that if no adjustment is required then the
process is free and you get a printout of your car's alignment.

If the front end requires adjustment it's £26, if the rear also requires a tweak then it's £50.

My car was on the ramp for a suspiciously long time before the TV monitor showed it was connected
to the electronic system, then presto hey, the car required front toe adjustment [ which I expected ] but it
also showed the offside rear toe was way out. So now I'm £76 lighter.

I can't prove the rear toe was deliberately un-adjusted when the car was first on the ramp,
but I bet it was.

Just something to ponder when you visit your friendly tyre provider.

I'd do nothing and be genuinely delighted that my ducks are all in a row such that this even registered on my give-a-fkometer.

So you have no idea if the rear was out but because you 'bet it was' then you've been ripped off and this is a nw scam that garages are using to rip people off?

God help the world
