Monsieur Escargot,
I seem to recall smoking Partagas cigars with you at Greens, but I am sure Bebs will confirm.

I fancy one this evening but the lovely summer we are having has made the balcony a no-no and smoking inside would put me in the very bad books frown

Splendid idea Sir, that should weed out the riff-raff... wink

Interesting that Zino Davidoff states that 'band off' is the way. I've always been too scared of harming the wrapper to even attempt such lunacy.

Also that he never smokes more than half the cigar. At £30 a pop for Cuaba Diademas ($10 in Havana though), I've been known to burn my fingers...

Just registering an interest in this thread smile

My only experience of cigars is assorted fairly cheap ones (Henri Wintermans?) from the local newsagent when I was at uni so I'm all ears!

To relate some of the stogies mentioned to cars
Henri Wintermans = Nova
Cohiba = TVR
Cuaba = 911
and there's lots between!

Thought so, it was a long time ago and I think I did actualyl have a Nova at the time! In my defence at the time it was the only car I could buy for under £500 which would run on unleaded petrol and be insurable for an 18 year old!

As a foot note, the oldest Cuban I have smoked was a Carbana Y Carbajal 1870 (a brand no longer produced) It was an interesting smoke because of the age but to be honest just a bit of hot smoke.. rather than an enjoyment
Well, if you have any you didn't get through...

ps Bebs: I'd like to expand my knowledge (and have already been on a buying trip to Havana), so if that's your line of business, please post details or PM me

Sorry, doesn't compute. Which cigars realate to:

Rover
Jaguar
Daimler
Bristol
Bentley
Rolls Royce

Cigar/Car relationships have to involve British cars. smile

In which case my old Henri Wintermans are a Reliant Rialto, or possibly an Austin Montego 1.3L I guess!

Well, some of my hope seems to be returning.
I am currently esconsed in a club armchair in the incredibly civilized smoking 'shelter' in the Henley Hotel Du Vin.
In one hand, following Beb's wise words, a Siglo VI. In the other, a simply fabulous armagnac dating from 1944.
To sit in comfort, enjoying a smoke, whilst sipping on an irreplaceble piece of history, created as the hun were sent packing, serve as a most appropriate and timely reminder of what has been taken away of late, and of how much more we can still lose, if the right thing is not done come next ballot.

Cheers all.

If I hadn't just polished off most of a bottle of Bordeaux I'd be tempted to jump in the car and whizz down the road to join you biggrin

Enjoy smile

Yes, it looks like you can still smoke in there. Went there on Friday ... Sign on the door said something about "No Smoking" in big letters and then in small letters under it something like "... unless you are sampling the cigars sold there ..." confused

Mind you, I found the place on the small side ... Seating for 6 and a couple of stools ... Any one know of a bigger place in London?

TIA

Just in the process of joing a private club with similar rules - should be good for signing people in for a PH night. The problem with the bar above is that you can't drink - its just coffees and water unless you go next door into the other bar where there is no smoking.
