Secret tunnels under Manchester
Discussion
Not secret any longer Amazing stuff, especially if you live near Manchester!
Unfortunately they won't say where the entry points are, because they'll get blocked up by the authorities. Its just a shame that so little is known about these places.
ETA sorry for the removal of the link but I don't think you meant to post that one.

These places are amazing - there is a huge one near me in Knowl Hill just outside of Maidenhead. One of the biggest in the UK and hardly anyone knows about it. It was designed and built during the cold war era and was loacated there as it was supposed to give enough time for Government/Royal Family etc to get out of London and get as far away as possible when the button was pressed.
We used to go down there when we were kids and you coudl easily get lost in the place. Tunnels everywhere and control rooms/ bedrooms - posh suites etc. They ended up turning it into a storage facility for wine and is still used for this now. When I was in my late teens a few of us climbed down a shaft that went on what seemed like forever and had a little wine raid. They've since secured all the secret openings in the woods now!

Are these the bricked-up arches in the wall overlooking the Irwell, next to Victora Bridge?
When I was a kid there used to be a very delapidated, rotten flight of wooden steps leading to them, from the top end of the bridge. I was alsways told they were old air raid shelters.
this story Is the one I'd really like to know more about. I've heard if from a few sources over the years.

Cool.
Years back, we used to visit a load of tunnels situated near Beeston Castle, not far from Tarporley.
They were really weird, in fact so weird that reading this thread has ignited my interest in a bit of exploring. I may just pop over to that part of the country in the coming weeks...

As interesting as the photos are on 28dayslater I find there's a large amount of elite snobbery from a small group of higher ups within the site.
Kind of "look what we've found!!!... but we're not going to tell you where it is or how to get in because people might ruin it."
Like all of a sudden they're an authority on who can and can't trespass.
Try and find more information on those Manchester Tunnels on the site, chances are you won't because they've removed all the threads as talk about the tunnels was 'raising awareness'.

Hmm. I asked if the tunnels were related to the Manchester and Salford Junction Canal, and the question gets deleted.
I think theres some paranoid admins on that site!
See my previous post above.I think theres some paranoid admins on that site!
They're like spoilt children who don't want to share their toys.
They'll use the excuse that they don't want the authorities to close these places down due to over exposure. I'm pretty sure the authorities are well aware of these such places and no doubt will go to whatever lengths to seal off access the moment a bunch of Urbex'ers start posting photos on the internet and let it be known they've gained access.
