Right, Olf and I are going to have a little 'chat' to sort this out.
Unfortunately Olf can't chat or come to the keyboard right now since he's currently got a gag strap in his mouth and his hands are tied behind his back in the special way he really likes.
Just to set a few things straight:
1. I'm not a sop. Olf (and others) have concluded that I earn £70K but the truth is that no-one apart from me knows - I don't feel the need to talk about it all the time.
2. Long hours in Mgt Consultancy are de rigeur. We get paid on outcomes so it's largely academic how many hours it takes vs what we thought it would take when we started - rather like being a builder but not tapping up the home owner for another £50K because you realised half way through the job that the house needs underpinning.
As others have surmised, the long hours are offset by other benefits like lots of good training and leading some very high profile projects which can really transform long term career prospects. In my case I'm leading a project that a whole country will be using within the next 5 years. These type of challenges are stretching and mostly fun but require a lot of hard work - when you're leading them you land up doing what it takes to make sure that the project gets delivered.
3. I continue to maintain that Olf engages in weird role play games and have attached a recent picture of him celebrating Diwali - the festival of lights, by way of evidence. Now I've thought about it the 'look' is just a bit too relaxed. I haven't seen a squirrel outfit though (yet).
