I don't think anyone on here has said they have tattoo's because they want to show themselves as being 'individual'. People have tattoo's because they want to. Yes a percentage of people get them because a mate has one, or a celeb has tattoo's, but there are a huge amount of people of have them for personal reasons, or generally like tattoo's and want a piece of artwork on their arm. As many people have said tattoo's have been around for years, but I would say only really recently became socially acceptable in the mainstream society, and therefore less stigma attached. Where as people before might have wanted to get a tattoo, but felt like they couldn't will actually now decide to get one as its more acceptable and less taboo.

What that artwork is doesn't really matter. Could be something really personal to them but who gives a scensoredt, its there body and not hurting you or anyone else? If you ask why have you got a tattoo of a gorilla/skull on your leg and he replies 'because i like them' is that a good enough reason? Does everyone need to justify something?

I have a few tattoo's (3/4 sleeve, ribs, leg) the content probably means nothing to anyone else and someone might say your trying to be fashionable, but to me it a personal thing which helped me get over the death of my dad, and i couldn't give a t*ss what anyone thinks about it.

I don't understand why people have to justify tattoos? Do you have to justify why you don't like them or understand them.

While i hold no grudge against people who don't like them, I don't get why it's questioned.

As for the artistic comments, you would be suprised the background and abilities of some artists.
Tattoos come in 2 flavours. Decent ones, you see and think 'that has had work and imagination, and looks interesting.' or WFT.

Personally, they aren't for me, but they don't worry me at all.

Why the fk not? Because you look like a total fking Bellend with a gorillas face on your calf?

Jeez. I asked a perfectly reasonable question and you act like your stereotype. A tattooed dick.
I clearly stated I was not being provocative.

But, thank you. You've reminded me why I come on PH once in a blue moon these days. It's full of s and chavs.
laugh

Leave 'em to it chap. It gives me something to snigger at whenever this thread gets updated...

A fking skull on your leg!!! Honestly fking pissed myself at those pics. Tragic. fking tragic.
They are fking hilarious, imagine when they're sitting there when they are 80 in the nursing home and it's all gone saggy rofl

As usual an appreciation thread has turned into one of abuse.
Is it not so difficult for those who dont "get" or "see" what tattoo's are about to either pass the thread by or just read it and keep their opinions to themselves?

Im sure there are people that I work for that look at mine and think WTF? But they are polite enough to keep it to themselves. Which is something people on here ought to think of before they post rude or just nasty remarks.

Perhaps if we ever get a new volume,a long way to go for that, there could be a different title

without the question for the non appreciators.

There was a previous thread that Gretch started ages ago, which was more of an appreciation/show your ink type thing but this one ended up taking over.

Not sure the title needs changing. Would maybe just be nice if people thought a little more before they posted. Having an opinion and the way you put that across are two very different things.

Just because you can say/write something, doesn't mean you should.

Managed to catch up with Kamil at the convention whilst he was about to start a large chest piece. He's just bought some nice American muscle car, could be an Impala or something and is starting out on a restoration and mega 650hp engine project!

He's doing some great stuff at the moment, especially if you fancy some horror styles:

I still haven't finalised a theme for my next one, as I can either get Kamil to do it, or Ryan Evans who's at the same studio. Ryan's stuff is more realistic, but less quirky so I guess I need to nail down the design first!
Here's one from Ryan recently.. It'll be interesting to see how this lasts over time as that's a lot of black!
Genuinely not trying to be provocative at all, but what is the attraction with either of these tattoos? I really don't get it.

I can understand and appreciate they are beautifully done.

Why do some people customise their car? Change hairstlyes? Eat at Nandos? Because why the fk not?
Needed to put the whole of CVMs post of to fully explain my response, as I really don't want to come over as an ahole to such a newbie here...

Now get over your pmt, there was absolutely no need for that reaction to his post, other than being a bh. Re-read the question.

And in case you still don't get it, the question is not asking why people get tattoos, but why in particular those 2 up there.

No wonder there's a thread "is PG full of Chavs?" & so many old members are leaving, PH really is going to the dogs frown

I'm not a massive fan of the tattoo in question.

But honestly, the people banging on about how it's "fking tragic" "you look like a total bellend" calling people "s", "chavs" and "tattooed dicks" are the only ones coming across like a shower of pathetic, miserable wkers that have nothing better to do.

I put it to you, if you think that everyone here is a 'chav' or '', feel free to fk right off and don't come back, it's people like you that are dragging this place down from the tolerant fun environment it should be, to the one you think it's turning into.
doogz, read the posts I've quoted above, & you'll understand the reaction wink

It's not him dragging it down frown

And it's definitely NOT fashion, it's just a huge coincidence that everyone seems to be needing to 'express their individuality' in exactly the same way recently...

Out of interest, what do you mean by recently? When do you think this 'happened'?

My grandpa and a few of his sailor mates had the same tattoo 70 years ago.
Ari's right, it is trendy to have tattoos with certain groups of people.

Yes, it's been around for thousands of years but only recently has it ecome so mainstream Ka, fashion, trendy etc

Your Grandpa & his mates having the same was because it meant something personal to them, like the tattoo art being demonstrated by the gorilla in the picture & Johnny, Moneypenny, Gretchen etc - it has meaning to them, as mine do to me (even tho I regret them!)

There used to be one or two places to go too, usually in back streets with cheap rents. Now there's 5 tattoo places on my mile walk into town & at least 10 others scattered around town and yet looking at the artwork on show & clients smoking outside, not one I'd choose to go into!

Show us your tattoo? Or summat wasn't it? Some fabulous artwork in there, as there is in this one.

People need to learn to read what is actually written, rather than swearing & jumping down posters throats for no reason, that's what's expected of a tattooed thug & so the cycle continues wink
