Do you have a tattoo?

Now. Will someone PLEASE tell me why you'd get a monkey fking ape plastered onto your body?
Because why the fk not? Seriously I don't know, but then I have a massive fish on my arm, not because I like Koi but I like the japanese style
Maybe they were a zookeeper and were very 'close' with this ape/gorilla?
I ended up buying a very expensive Tom & Jerry book to then take some photocopies of the original Fred Quimby Tom & Jerry. I later returned the book that afternoon and lost about 30 quid, but got the right colours and detailing of the characters I wanted for a small tattoo.
I did sum up a time and a place for me.

So a bit of cultural tourism then?By your own admission, something that has a cultural significance to others has been adopted by you because you just like how it looks.... That's exactly the thing about the current craze for tattoos the I find ridiculous. Just like Kevin from Essex getting Maori tribal tats.
No different to middle class white boys getting dreadlocks and claiming to be Rasta!

Is that a bird of some description? Is it wrapped around your whole arm? Where's his face?My arm is quite small in diameter so it wraps around a bit.
It's a nod to my footie team without having a team name on my arm.

I've got two massive fish Perhaps it was a sentimental tribute to his wife?
My eldest son wants a portrait of Julie Andrews! Next to the one he has of Bjork. Above one of Julia Roberts. Adjacent to one of someone else...!
I've got a naked Geisha and a Dragon. I'm sure people wonder the fk why too at times.
I asked about the dot work as I was informed of a great opportunity to have some done. It would suit perfectly a piece I've wanted for twenty year or so. Just hadn't found the right time to have it. Now is good. And the dot work perfect. Just wanted people's experience of it - pain wise as well as how the final piece turned out from your initial expectations?
I've got a few tattoo related/life changing stories of recent. But I'll post them at a later date once things are back on topic.

Methinks you're taking this whole thing far too seriously.
I have the tattoos I have because I like them, the art is superb and I needed some st ones I had when I was younger covered up.
I don't walk around pretending to be yakuza and I would never have dreadlocks and pretend to be a rasta, however Bob Marley is a favourite artist of mine.
Seeing as I posted the pic of the gorillamonkey then i'm going to answer CVMs question of why you'd get it as a tattoo.... also in the hope that we can get the fk over ourselves and carry on posting pics of our own work.
I've been following various online publications/magazines and the such like ever since I started to think about getting mine done around 3 yrs ago. Even in that very short period, it seems clear to me that there's an element of those people who fancy something done in a realistic style... and even in the past 3 years in my opinion the standards have kept going higher and higher, to the point where some of them look almost photographic.
I have often been tempted, and still am, to have something ultra realistic and having seen a few at a recent convention, i'm still keen.
My own impression is that it feels a bit like one-upmanship in trying to find the artist that can do something more realistic than anyone else, that there's a certain pride given when having a tattoo that is of a higher "quality" within this genre of artists. Whilst the artist themselves should be damn happy with their technical ability, that doesn't prevent the owner/canvas of the tattoo also feeling proud with them.
The fact that it is a gorilla is actually slightly secondary to the technical skill and realism when choosing what to have, although that's just my take on it. I'm equally sure there may also be something more meaningful to the owner (they might be a conservationist who's been working with gorilla's for their entire life for all I know!). I like the fact that it's technically possible, and I like the fact that someone has gone ahead and had it done.
So.. to widen the topic a little and get it back on track... Here's some work from 2 artists that I follow and in a perfect world I would like to get some work from but only if I gave up an entire sleeve... and the wife won't like that one bit! Thoughts on these?

Whilst I can appreciate the artwork and technical skill of it, Ijcan't ever imagine having enough of a bond with my play station to get a picture of a controller tattooed onto my body.
With a finger that looks a bit like a limp willy (as much as I appreciate the technical skill etc etc etc disclaimer)
