I'd write the Poem verses out in word or something like that. Simply play with every font available to see if a style flows with the words. The inside of the arm isn't massive so I'd also print off the words in different sizes to see how legible it would be to read it all once on your arm.

Have a good look through google images to see other styles and how different people flow words in that placement.

As for the day. Have a good breakfast, nothing out of the normal from your daily routine. Take with you maybe a energy drink and a chocolate bar or some fruit. Duration depends on the artist. I couldn't possible imagine it taking any longer than 2 hours. The first time consuming bit will simply be them placing the words on your arm and you checking your happy with the placement.

Pre shave what ever area your having done. I never understand why people don't as your simply then going to be paying someone lots of money to waste time shaving you!
This is very good advice, just be clean and calm. You'll definitely want some sugary stuff ready.

First post in this thread for me...

I've decided I want a tattoo. I've had a frankly st couple of years and I know what I want. It's a personal (to me) quote - the last lines of a poem. Two short lines, 14 words. I know where on me I want it (inside of my left forearm). What should I be looking to pay?

And more importantly, the "form" of the words is important too. I don't want any massively fancy script/font, but I don't know exactly what the font should be. I know I'll know when I see it. Are there any websites you'd recommend that can let me see a "mock up" of how it'd look? I know I can google, but I'd prefer a personal recommendation.

When I go to get it done, how long should it take and how should I "prepare"? I know not to turn up drunk/hungover, but other than that, I don't have a clue.

Cheers in advance.
If you post up your county or area I will point you in the direction of some good artists. Script on its own can look a bit plain but I understand its personal to you.
Just also think ahead - that cool script neatly tattooed on your arm will change as you get older and start to blur. It will end up looking like felt tip on loo roll. Also as your skin sags with age then the straight lines will start to look pissed.

And if you're a girl, think about that cutesy scorpion just below your belly button that turns into a massive lobster when you're preggers and then into a flacid king prawn sometime later.

Dave, that piece is fantastic. Does it fully wrap around your arm?
The sleeve is completely wrapped around my arm. It drops down in and under my armpit and inner chest. Funny enough the part right in under my armpit was fine getting tattooed. The part close around my nipple though was a odd pain!!

I am just about getting there with my design. If you know any good artists near Cambridge I would be ever so grateful if you could give me a heads up.

No, I don't have a tattoo but they're very attractive.

If I saw a good looking potato with a hot piece of potato related artwork inked on their potato skin I'd get a potato shoot about that.

What style are you looking for? Black/Grey, colour, traditional etc.

these fellas are on my right calf , inner and outer .. the spidey was pretty painful, more than The Goblin. took a lot longer to heal and still not quite there in some deeper shaded areas. Also had a bit of a reaction a day after due to the red ink. Ive heard and seen that before but its sorted out now. got a background to add with pumpkin bombs and webbing etc yet to tie it together. Done by the fantastic Mr Paul Preistly at skinshockz tattoo in wyke. 2, 6 hour sessions so far reason for em is i have been a spidey fan all my life.. love Alex Ross art, and just because i bloody well wanted it done smile as for how it looks when im old... i couldnt care less , if im breathing still its a bonus wink

How old are you now ?

It sorta looks like the thing a teenager/early 20's would do and say. I could imagine myself doing the same then...

Pete the Thief
Meehow
Jason Butcher
Rob Richardson (more portraits)
Dan Hancock
Paul Naylor
Josh Duffy
Gari Henderson
Thomas Pollard
Oddboy
Leigh Oldcorn
Dean Taylor
Emma Kierzek

All top draw artists. Full day rates will range from £300 upwards. Waiting lists will vary from 3 months to 3 years. These are all pretty much black and grey artists with odd bits of colour.

Instagram is best way to view work/portraits.

Thank you so much. Spent hours last night looking through their work. And you're right they are all artists....their work would be equally as home on canvas as opposed to skin.

One last question - anyone you would recommend in London - think that might be easier to get to looking at the location - though there is one above that is not too far. Yes it's worth travelling but I hadn't thought about London before.

Good, I'm glad you said that and not 18. I doubt you're going to grow out of thinking its a good idea now laugh

The colours on it look great now, I wonder how they'll hold out over the years ?

He has around a years waiting list. You can get lucky with taking a cancellation spot but thats luck of the drawer.
I think the waiting list is a good idea as it makes you focus, sure and adapt with no post-regrets? Bloke to a bloke- good bod too. I'm hoping to stop a stone/tone up more in Jan.

IMO a tat looks great on a good canvass. Naff on flab.
I agree. I want my ribs doing but the canvas needs some work!!

Cheers, thats what happens with simply regular exercise. I don't do any weights just body weight through Yoga classes. Bit of clean eating helps to. Just don't go crazy with a new years resolution. Having a tattoo booked I'm sure is a great motivation for people to get in shape but never do to much at once or you'll soon get bored and slip down old familiar paths.
