I know I could Google this but after all PH is the font of all knowledge !

Tattooing over scars ? yes / no only certain styles etc

Ive got a nice selection of quite large scars on my leg from various knee operations and I have always liked the bio mechanical style of Tattoo but have never had one done. Its a embryonic idea but want to see what the pitfalls of tattooing scar tissue are?

Any advice appreciated

It hurts like fk! On the wreath bits of mine some of it went over scars, it hurt like an MF! Other than that, it looks the same as the rest of it.

Think it'll depend on the age / type of scar. Deeper scars like from surgical cuts can be an issue if they're relatively young I think.

On my sleeve, I had a scar on the side of my elbow, about the size of a 50p coin where I burnt it on an exhaust manifold years ago. Tattoo went over it with no issue, basically can't even see where it was.

Best thing to do is send a pic to, or have a chat with an artist and get their opinion as they'll surely have experience of working with scar tissue.

i've had a scar on my shin inked over - its a tiny bit paler than the surrounding ink but not noticeable unless you are looking close. didn't notice any difference in pain either.

That is the main scar with another about 6 inches long
Straight down the middle of the knee cap and below.

Some of the stuff on this thread is very inspirational though and I can see the next one I have done being quite a bit more adventurous.

More adventurous than your current one of a dagger cutting a frozen chicken? No. Way.

Just after the first, 4 hour stint.

A few days after.
Would annoy the fk out of me that the dice aren't a pair.

I am no expert, but I think you'll need to wait a little while before tattooing over that.

The dice have sentimental meaning. 2/3 is an important date to me, as do the cards (thus why a 2 is missing)

The top dice (on the pic) is wrong. Three and four are never on adjacent faces, they are opposites: as the opposite faces on a die always sum to seven.

To add, you could have the four made into a five if you are in any way fussed by it. smile

You're right, however he could get it fixed by turning the four into a five.

I could. But as I said, I wanted it done like that for sentimental reasons, but should that reasoning ever need changing, I can add a 5, so it's no biggie.

I'm surprised you noticed the dice, moreso than the cards hehe

I would wait a while, the fresher the scar the more the ink will pool in it and you will lose detail and run risk of it blurring out.
