It seems far more common for blokes under 40 and over 18 to have tatts now than not. Getting that way with girls as well. There has been something of a backlash in the USA but they still seem ever popular here. Funny how something once seen as being individual, daring, unique is now so ultimately mainstream as to be expected.

Some things still are unique, but IMO most tats are in line with all the other "non conforming" things. Take goths. Pride themselves on non conforming. Then they conform exactly to the sterotype of being a goth.

Same with current trend. "I wanted something unique and to be different" followed by sleeve with rose, skull, dice and your kids name on it. I shouldn't comment though. As pointed out uniquely so many times, Only god can fudge me.

Tattoo fixers is my guilty pleasure currently, hilarious how often skulls come up and how the female tattooist always surrounds her design in flowers regardless of what the customer requests or their sex

I thibk people should just get or do whatever they want and not care about what other people are doing, or worry about being unique or viewed as following the crowd.

My friend has applied to go on this! My youngest lad likes it, if only for the amount of dodgy tattoos that get covered with often even dodgier tattoos... Not the best tattooists around. But easy on the eye...

Are a lot of people not getting tatts because it's massively 'on trend' and their mates have them?

I think a lot of people aren't getting them because they simply don't want them. As has always been the way...

There again many of the better artists can pretty much pick and choose their clients nowadays. I know a few people who want something but the artists they've approached aren't interested.

Then there's those artists who have a two year waiting list. It's not easy to be as impulsive as you once could be. Which isn't such a bad thing.

^ not sure I agree with this..... it is still pretty easy to walk in a shop and pick a flash design off the wall and get a st tattoo almost immediately.

Although like you said the popular artists can pick and choose their clients AND charge pretty much whatever they want.

Cheers johnny, 2nd tattoo. Had a bad experience when I got my first at 16. Wanted these for about 6 months after a lot of travelling.

Got them after a few pints (many) in thailand after researching some artists. Healed nicely in about a week and 2 days but still moisturizing them.

Chuffed to bits with them.

I have to ask, what do they mean? (if anything). I thought swallows were some kind of signal for gay blokes. Or old blokes in the navy, if they're on the top of your hands.

And yes its an old sailor tattoo.

One on the way out and one on the return to home. I've done some travelling and always come back.

I like the design. Nobody else has to like them but as above i'm chuffed.

Yeah I don't understand the attraction to roses or flowers on everything....... and given the show is obviously heavily scripted I can't quite get over how average some of the end results are.
Roses are a good base for a cover up, that's why they are used so much on Tattoo Fixers and that like.

By far the most common sleeve / style at the moment is the black / grey religious style.

I've seen some incredible examples, like mind blowing detail and realism, and also some utter abortions that look like a primary school art project.
Clock faces seem really popular too. I quite like the idea of a animal/wildlife based piece, perhaps focusing on tropical fish / reef scene but as you say there are so many that look like stty primary school art projects I'm not sure I would take the risk.

I also notice from various instagram and portfolio websites that these people only seem to work with white skin?
