Spent the afternoon at Kamil's, last minute cancellation meaning we could get in before next year.
As Mrs Johnny has got 2 on the go now, and me none at present, it seemed prudent to let her use the time. 3 hours on the sleeve she started in June.
Loads of work done in the time we had, very productive!
I've got a piece planned for my rught calf next while she finishes her big pieces, then I'll start my back.
Sessions booked all the way through 2017. Can't wait.

Today's the day... got a sketch yesterday which I'm mostly happy with, asked for a few alterrations but mostly leaving it up to the expert! We start at 12 and I'm "working" until then... the past nine minutes have taken six hours!
Lots easier than expected. Seven hours done, probably another 14 or so to go, and I can't wait - genuinely enjoyable experience. I'll put a pic up when I'm allowed to take the wrap off...Very red but you get the idea. The waves on my arm aren't shaded/finished as we'll be extending downwards from there. Next session will be to put Scylla on my bicep somewhere and add some more little boats.
Finally we'll move onto the chest with a representation of the Antikythera, a map, and some treasures.
Well remembered! She's an absolute star. I'd thoroughly recommend her to anyone. Her portfolio speaks for itself - you either like it or you don't, but (imo) there's no denying the quality - but what it doesn't tell you is that she's absolutely lovely, laughs like a drain the whole time, and puts you totally at ease. She charges £100 per hour but anything over 5 hours is a freebie - I was sat for about six and a half hours total from 12 to 7:15.
Hi, I'm getting my first tattoo next week - a Samoan shoulder/ quarter sleeve by Chisaki at the family business in Islington. I want to make sure it looks as good as it can & was wondering if there was any prep I should do to the skin before my appointment. A relatively small amount of hair grows where she will be tattooing which I normally have to shave off once every 6 weeks or so (sounds lovely doesn't it !), so am I best of shaving it a couple of days before & then moisturising ? Also is there a particularly good brand of cream I should get for afterwards - or any other things it would be good to do or avoid ? I'm sure she will go through it with me but I'd prefer to go prepared, thanks

I like Chisaki's work, I've had a couple of pieces done there by another artist.Regarding preparation - Take a chill pill If it needs shaving, she'll sort that. Try and stay relaxed during the process, when I had my first big piece done I was really tense for the first session and felt shattered afterwards, second session I concentrated on relaxing and it was fine.
I've used bepanthan afterwards and it seems to help, I have seen preparation H recommended and tried it once, but found bepanthan better.
Good luck, don't worry & post pics
Benpanthen as suggested. If you have kids you'll know that it creates a protective layer over the skin (to stop nappy rash).
If you want it to breathe more, I was recommended this by one the tattooists and I've never looked back as they say. You'll forever associate the smell of cocoa powder with pain though!:

Just make sure you wash your hands before applying any cream.
Also using cohesive bandage to secure the clingfilm is a lot better than tape.

Cheers for the pointers, funnily enough I've got some of that butter cream at home, but will get some Benpanthen ordered today. How long do you have to keep the cling film on for - reason being is that I've got a half marathon 2 days after my second session ?
I would keep it covered up overnight for the first night at least, peeling a duvet off of your new tattoo isn't fun. Are you running in a vest? watch out for chafing, you'll possibly be swollen. You'll know better how your body reacts after the first session anyway.Choppers said:

I always took my ipad when I had my sleeve done. Watch films/tv and took mind off the pain. Personally I wouldn't keep it covered that long.
I usually take mine off after 3-4 hours, wash it with a ph neutral soap (Johnson's Baby Shampoo type stuff) and then towel pat dry, leave to dry fully and apply cream.
Bepanthan is good but I've been using Easy Tattoo recently for the first few days then, once it's more healed, Aqueos.
