Do you have a tattoo?
Discussion
Tattoos are very subjective, personally, I know that there is not enough money in the world that could ever persuade me to have one.
I could say more, but went a tad 0TT on another forum, and I'm still digging myself out from under the opprobrium that was heaped on me.
If other people want to have them, that's their call, but to me an arm or a leg heavily tattooed doesn't look good, particularly on a woman.
Guys, this is just MY opinion, the people to whom I refer, are no doubt kind to animals, ridiculously intelligent, love their mothers, and are working to bring about world peace.

Fair and reasoned. I don't think anyone could argue. It's when people make the jump from "I don't like the way tattoos/tattooed people look" to "tattooed people must be knobs" that the arguments start.I could say more, but went a tad 0TT on another forum, and I'm still digging myself out from under the opprobrium that was heaped on me.

Personally I feel this thread has evolved from the original "Why would you, I wouldn't" etc.
Not that those against tattoos bothers me, far from it. More that it's been covered many times. It's not for everyone..Fair enough.
Perhaps a more dedicated tattoo forum for advice, 'Show us your tattoos' etc...And leave this one here for what it was originally intended for.

I'm looking for a recommendation.
Ideally a talented custom realism style artist, some iconography in there too, 90/95% monochrome.
Location wise I live near Chesterfield about 10 miles north of Derby.
Happy to travel within reason - am familiar with Sheffield and work down in the Midlands but would rather not trek to Edinburgh or down to London!
Any suggestions?

This biomechanic arm is outstanding in concept and transition onto the body,
look at the "upper shock mount" really coming out of the chest ( with good photo perspective ).
I would have liked a bit more metal/chrome/realistic effects, some parts seem to be sketched only,
but on the other side this gives it a "Jules Verne Books" copperplate print appearance.

First ever tattoo.
8 and a bit hours in the chair with another 8hrs booked in a couple of months to complete... brilliant experience, strangely relaxing, won't be the last I'm sure.

The the TRex or whatever it is supposed to be a few posts later...I thought it was a joke until iMread the post. Still, different strokes for different folks.

Sorry to disappoint (however I can't be 100%) but I read that this was a photoshop. When I saw it posted a while back on FB it wasn't attributed to any artist which is unusual. Happy to be proved wrong if anyone knows?look at the "upper shock mount" really coming out of the chest ( with good photo perspective ).

Now see I'm generally more T Rex than hyper real. I suppose with the latter it is about how skillful they are at executing a technique, whereas the former is taking an established style and doing something radically different with it. Different types of creativity and as you say, different strokes (nice piece btw TW_UK).The the TRex or whatever it is supposed to be a few posts later...I thought it was a joke until iMread the post. Then you get somebody like Kamil (see Johnny's piece) who does both by taking the hyper real and developing it in a completely new direction so that you can instantly recognise his work as it's unique.
All of that underpins some of the questions on the last few pages. Should a tattoo be about a style you like (bio mech for example), something that means something to you, somebody who is local, or finding an artist who's work you like and commissioning them to do a unique piece for you that you're happy to commit the rest of your life to? Each to their own.

It's so personal, I don't take myself too seriously, and my tattoos reflect that...my main criteria for a tattoo is excellent execution and being a fan of the artists work, if I like the artists style then i'm pretty open and flexible as to the subject matter. Then you get somebody like Kamil (see Johnny's piece) who does both by taking the hyper real and developing it in a completely new direction so that you can instantly recognise his work as it's unique.

Personally I would never get a hyper real tattoo as I know I wouldn't be happy with it, as great as some artists are...neo trad on the other hand, really does it for me.
