Totally wrong.
Statistically 4x4's are the safest vehicles on the roads with the lowest fatality rate.
Modern car's are also substantially longer, wider and more stable than older classics, not to mention the plethora of safety aids.

The main issue with vision restriction with helmets in car's is people moving eyes rather than head for peripheral vision.
Consider something as simple as wearing spectacles, looking out of my Sparco helmet theres still space outside my specs, so just like normal driving I have to move my head to check my peripheral vision, many non spectacle wearers just move there eye's so once they have a helmet on they don't change there habits into moving there head.
