I was in WH Smiths at the weekend and noted a magazine called HOBBY'S in the general/hobby section.

I haven't looked into this (there is probably an explanation I guess..) but it just looked so wrong!
The company is WH Smith. Why do people always put an 's' on the end of a company's name? The other day one of my female collages said she bought something from Etams. No, you bought something from Etam.
Smiths, Etams, Tescos, Safeways. Just something people do I guess.
Why in shops do they say "Put your PIN number in", or why did we used to talk aboot "PCB boards".

Why do shop assistants say "Have a nice day", when the really mean "F&^k off"

I've often wondered, are sign makers generally thick or do they just write what they're told without questioning it? I saw two vans on the same day that both said "No Job To Small".
Exactly. We had a bus stop put up outside our school when I was a lad. The school was called 'Queen Elizabeth Grammar school,' yet they managed to spell it 'grammer'...
Did you go to QEGS Blackburn?

My guess would be sometime in the '80s at 10 minutes after five of the clock.

Nope, QEGS Wakefield. Were you at Blackburn?

"Should of" instead of "should have" - that really grips my poop in a totally irrational way.

Reminds me of a promo that always makes me laugh/cringe every time I see it.

Local petrol station:

!!Irn-Bru - Only 6 cans - £4!!

If anyone notices blatant language/spelling/grammar mistakes I have just finished a bottle of red wine.

This sort of things really riles me, god knows why as there are so much more important things to be worried about!.

Anyway, what is the general consensus on using the ' in a possessive context of a non-plural noun ending in "s". i.e. My company ends in the letter "S" and I'm pretty certain that all of the proposals/documentation I read stating <company name>' should read <company name>'s as it is not a plural so the "s" rule doesn't apply.....

Poor people, you mean? Others use Waitrose.
So the middle class have institutionalised their "s" and then drag the ladder up behind them. In another 50 years, Tescose might be considered posh and Lidls will be on the up.

I find that Waitrose customers tend to be the sort of people who want others to think they're well-off, but are actually mortgaged and car-loaned up to the hilt.

Fresh fruit and veg aside, I find Waitrose to be overpriced and positively mediocre. Give me Morrisons or Asda any day, and sod the social implications.
