I also don't get Sarah Millican's appeal, however her husband (Gary Delaney) is one of my favourites.

Similar story with Sara Pascoe and her partner, John Robbins. The bit on Mock the Week when he joked about living with her is on my personal top 10.

Both ladies seem like those mildly amusing co-workers you occasionally meet at the coffee machine. How they rose to stardom and got resident seats on prime time TV is beyond me.

I went to see Micky Flanagan the other week, he's past his best.

Gary Delaney is one who's grown on me, I was never a huge fan of the one liner style of comedy but some of his stuff is genius!

+ 1 for Nish Kumar, they need to bin him off Mock the Week and just get James Acaster in every week instead

Probably part of the reason that they separated a few months ago.

Robbins' podcasts with Elis James are very good.

Not Cannon and Ball.
The tall one was a bit like Captain Peacock but with a west country accent.
They're not big names or been on TV much as that recording was the only time I've seen them.
Little and large?

Must be more than that as his old stuff has been on TV for a few years now and that was old recordings of his live tour , but yes he was quite good back then, I was surprised to learn he's 55.
Admittedly I'd never seen him live, so what I did see of him on TV was probably a collection of his best bits, he wasn't bad, just not that great hence my comment. I think the internet has driven a stake through a lot of things, maybe comedy is one of them as it's difficult for them to be original when we've got so much info and one liners coming at us on a daily basis. Some of the stuff he came out with I'd heard snippets of before; 'face like a plasterer's radio' has been bandied around for years now so didn't make me laugh.

You know when someone makes a bit of a nasty or edgy remark and then follows it up with 'Oh I'm only joking'? His stuff was a bit like that.

Has Nish Kumar been mentioned yet?

Surely the unfunniest of the lot.
How does he keep getting the Mock The Week gig?!

i think there is just a big difference between decent comedians and 'household' comedians. He is very much the latter, along with many in this thread. Most of the mooing masses will spit their coke and chips at the oldest and most basic of TV jokes.

On a personal level: Miranda Hart, Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Russel Howard, Josh Widdicombe, Marcus Brigstocke, David Baddiel, Frankie Boyle, the bloke who does Mrs Brown's Boys, the bloke who does Citizen Khan and pretty much every US comedian, bar Robin Williams, Bill Hicks, Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor.

All about as funny as a colonic irrigation with some rusty barbed wire.

I'd take out the word 'bar'.

Whilst I appreciate comedy is a very subjective and personal thing, to state that all US comedians are unfunny is just not correct. Have a listen to some of the lesser-known (over here) comics. Dan Cummins, Dana Gould, Dave Attell, Todd Barry, Daniel Tosh, Mitch Hedberg (RIP), Demetri Martin, Anthony Jeselnik to name just a few. All have me laughing aloud when listening on headphones (embarrassingly). Most of these are huge in the US. I could give you a list of at least 100 others.

Mind you, Andrew Dice Clay; now there's an unfunny tt.....

Comedy artists are like any other, musical or paint etc and as you point out subjective. Some have a few good tunes in them, some peak early, some are one-hit-wonders and some people will stick by them no matter how crap others think they are.

Anyone seen Reginald D Hunter or that German geezer, Henning whatshisface? I wouldn't mind seeing them.

I saw RDH at Carlisle... he was very good. Not just an affinity with the audience but a command of it. Not one heckle said a lot but he's also a big chap. 8/10.

I saw him last year. At the start of the show he said that he'd push it until we found it too uncomfortable.

He stuck to his promise.
