Could the quoted incident possibly be more of a non-event?

I miss the nervy/bedders double act.

I’m sure some will disagree, however IMO I have never heard a funny thing come out of her mouth. She just talks over people on panel shows and her own show is just a pile of rubbish.

Does anyone else find this lump funny? Can you find a comedian that is even unfunnier?
This is actually Mrs Masers cousin.

Out of family duty, we tried to watch the show and enjoy, but struggled, not really our sort of thing. Turned off after about 10 minutes.

Have tried since, thinking we may have seen a bad bit, but same problem.

She's actually really funny in 'real life', very charming, articulate, very nice lady. Her BF is Reginald Hunter, the big black American guy with the very deep voice. He's a proper gent too.

We've seen a lot of live comedy, always a better way to see it. Funniest guy I've seen is Tim Vine, and Andy Salzman is very good too. Worst guy was some chap in a small venue (Matt Blaize was on the bill but replaced at the last minute) who told 80s jokes badly. Can't even remember his name he was that bad. He actually said about 15 minutes in (with brain fade), 'Have I finished?'. To which half the audience replied 'yes'.

Tim Vine live is indeed great.

He doesnt give you chance to get a breath, its an exhausting show.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Michael MacIntyre yet?

Unfunny at the best of times but completely died on his proverbial last night at the BAFTAS thingy, when presenting an award with Tess Daly (I think it was her anywy).

Jimmy Carr is another one - went to see him Live as I enjoy him on 8 out of 10 Cats, but he was dreadful. Really dreadful. I just about managed a smile once or twice in the whole show.
The thing that summed it up for me perfectly was the bit he does where he gets out his mobile phone (can't remember exactly what it was all about) and a heckler called out 'Have you got the number of any comedians?' He really didn't know what to say and just ignored it. Poor.

Why is it silly? Comedians try to be funny, trying to be funny isn't funny, therefore comedians are not funny.
So the most insightful modern philosopher the world has ever produced, who also happened to be a comic, the legendary Bill Hicks wasn't funny?

Nor was

Lenny Bruce
Richard Pryor
Billy Connolly
Bill Bailey

And many many many others?

I'm guessing you find someone slipping on a banana skin hilarious?
No none of them were. And slipping on a banana skin isn't funny either.
Connolly is the funniest ever without doubt.

Sarah Silverman
Oh, I don't agree with that. The Sarah Silverman show is hilarious, and pushes boundaries. She's quite cute, too.
Each to their own, but I do not find Sarah Silverman funny in the slightest!

Kind of like sitting down quickly and crushing a testicle; you know that others find it funny, but to you it's just painful!

You see, although he is funny at times, Connolly is IMO one of the most over-rated comedians going. It's a pity as he isn't bad but the excess of praise just makes it too much.

Anyway, from the thread I think we've covered all the comedians going.

The PH conclusion is there is NO funny comedians biggrin

Al Murray - I just can't watch. You hold a pint of beer and shout and have a bald head. A bit like Soovy.

Just not funny.

Same goes for Catherine Tate. I'll play an old woman who might be straight from EastEnders and swears a lot - again - once is enough.

Alan Partridge - comic genius. I don't know whether Steve Coogan is funny, entertaining, dull or what, but his creations are genius. It's all in the writing. If you aren't a writer, then you need good writers as a comedian.

Also, most of the new genre, the Carrs etc. Frank Skinner is okay. Frank Carson less so.

His television shows are crap.

His live stuff however has elements of utter genius.

A very very clever man.

Lee Evans, walking around with a silly walk, falling over, screaming and blowing down the microphone isnt fking funny anymore, infact it never was
See his silent Bohemian Rhapsody live.

I dare you not to laugh.
Thought I'd give this a watch having never seen it before.

A couple of funny moments but didn't make me laugh.

However, if you want a mime type thing to a well known song that IS funny then I give you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0hAUN4bYVk

I dont mind Al Murrays live stuff, not watched all of it, just the odd bit when it's on the box.

Alan Patridge/Steve Coogan: I just don't get it?!

Catherine Tate is another one that's made quite a healthy living out of being irritating and unfunny

Harry Hill: What the fook is that all about?

I think a couple of people have been a little unfairly mentioned:

Lenny Henry's radio show was genuinely inventive and funny. Less so his TV sketch shows, though I liked his 'Chef' character. But, it does rather seem that Dawn has rubbed off on him.

Jo Brand was, in her early days, quite a funny obervational comedienne. But, she seemed to get lazy and turned to "God I'm fat. No blokes want me. Have you got any cake?" Has been better recently on e.g. QI

That said,

Ben Elton was never funny. For his 'Right-On' student views, let alone the 'Queen' musical, he deserves the wood chipper.

Reeves and Mortimer were a thin, uninventive reworking of Morcombe and Wise, with a misdirecting layer of (weak) surreality. I could not believe they fooled so many for so long.
