As per the title....worth having?

Mean anything?

Waste of time?

I've been offered a course and wondered if it was worth having on the CV.

Worth having on the CV as it is a popular Project Management Methodology.

Used in a lot of public sector projects and by large consultancy companies.

I haven't but guys around me have. In a nutshell - it's always useful to have stuff on the CV that's industry recognised, but like degrees, it doesn't really prove you can do a good job in practice - only in theory. I'm not sure Prince 2 give you the interpersonal skills required to be a good PM if you don't already have them.

We used to use them, but were binned when we were taken over a few years ago by a large corporate American company.

I believe they used to be highly regarded though, and even though I have not done them myself, quite a few colleagues have, and they are bloody hard work apparently!!!

As above, worth having - even if just to bolster a CV.

Worth having in my opinion. The quals, backed up with relevant on the job experience will look good on the CV.

Yes, as above. worth having as a tick on the CV.

I have foundation and practitioner quals, and now working on Programme Management.
There was a new format to the exams implemented in the last few years. Both foundation and practitioner are now multiple choice. I had to do a 3 hour written exxam for my practitioner!

I would recommend doing a week long residential course, where you study until Weds, when you do the foundation exam. If you pass, then you study on Thurs and take the practitioner exam on Friday. It's all done on site, and you stay there so you maintain focus!

Best practice if you want to work for, or with, the Public Sector, as it was written by the OGC.

Now there's a recommendation on how to make a project go smoothly.

^^^ Nice.

Got Prince2 qualification, and as long as you take it as something to pick and choose from as appropriate, rather than being completely prescriptive, then you ought to be able to find something of use in it.

And yes, it does look nice on a CV.

So a resounding 'Yes' then........I suspected it would be good to bolster the CV.

I'm hoping it will sit alongside/compliment some of my other quals I've done recently to stand me in good stead for a years time when I need work.

I have PRINCE2.

It's very highly regarded in the public sector/local government.

I'm currently involved in recruiting public sector Managers and it is listed as an 'essential' requirement in the person spec for some posts and a 'desirable' requirement in others.

It's a little dry but some of the pronciples are pretty useful. I'd do it.

In short, does it pay well?

Go for it Nick, especially if someone else is paying for it.

If you can, get MSP as well!

And yes if you are contracting as a project manager, it can pay very well... wink

Iirc you're in the RAF?

Can you do the APM courses too?

Thought MoD / Forces were steering away from Prince 2 towards the APM?

Prince2 is only worth it if staying in this country, otherwise you would be better off doing PMI

tho seeing as they probably wont let you take your mobile rape shed abroad.... Prince2 should be enough

For the public sector, yes.
